Jose Mourinho monitoring Arsesal star's situation at the club

The Portuguese is hoping to make an approach for him

Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez back in January in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way. However, before that they were also linked with a move for Mesut Ozil.

Jose Mourinho was keen to sign him but saw his efforts come to nothing after the former Germany international signed a new deal with the Gunners.

The Germany International joined the London Outfit from Real Madrid for a reported fee of £42.5 million, signing a five-year deal in 2013. He has been a mainstay in the midfield since joining the club and has won 3 FA Cups.

He has had a difficult summer after feeling persecuted for Germany’s early exit from the World Cup where his meeting with Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was cited as a reason for the poor performances.

The 29 year old even decided to retire from International football and was criticized by several senior officials in the German Football Association.

There have been reports of bust up between between the player and club’s new manager Unai Emery and that was the reason he was dropped against West Ham United. Though the Spaniard later admitted that the player missed the game due to illness and confirmed that there is no rift between them.

The playmaker has featured in 4 of the 5 Premier League fixtures so far this season and was impressive against Newcastle United, scoring a goal and helped the club to win their third consecutive game.

Mourinho is hoping to make an approach for Mesut Ozil this winter, reports the Daily and Sunday Express.

The Portuguese is monitoring whether he becomes available or not. A potential rift with Emery has opened the door for another attempt to sign him, and another possible butting of heads between the former Chelsea manager and Ed Woodward over transfer targets.
