Jose Mourinho scouts Marko Arnautovic for Manchester United

Portuguese is keen to bring the forward as backup to Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign this season, not winning a single silverware. Their priority is to add defensive reinforcements and club will also look to sell few players to accommodate new signings.

But Jose Mourinho also keen to bolster his forward line this summer as he wants potential back-up to Romelu Lukaku.

The Red Devils were clearly very dependent on the Belgian this term, as they struggled when he got injured and missed few matches during the end of the campaign. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial struggled to make an impact upfront as they prefer to play on the left side of the flank.

The Portuguese manager is reportedly keen to bring West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic this summer to compete with the former Everton man.

Arnautovic joined the Hammers from Stoke City for a club-record £25 million fee last summer and has enjoyed a fine season with them despite the club’s struggles. The 29 year old scored 11 goals and assisted 6 during the 2017-2018 season and was one of the standout players for the club.

The 29 year old has previously worked with the Portuguese manager during their time at Inter Milan back in 2009. He made only three appearances for the Serie A giants during an unsuccessful loan spell at the San Siro from FC Twente and subsequently joined Werder Bremen in the summer of 2010.

Mourinho was spotted at a friendly between Austria and Russia on Wednesday, as rumors swirl he is targeting a move for Austrian forward. That will only likely to pour more fuel on the rumor, though the manager claimed he was only on Holiday.

The Austrian would definitely have impressed as he assisted the winner and played for 83 minutes for the team. He had his say on the scouting trip:

‘It is a great honour for our entire team that a coach like Mourinho is watching us,’ Arnautovic told Austrian newspaper Kurier as quoted by Metro.
