The manager didn’t get the players he wanted during the summer transfer window
Jose Mourinho prioritized bolstering his squad during the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.
The Red Devils secured three signings during the transfer window, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee was agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred and goalkeeper Lee Grant from Stoke City.
The Portuguese wanted few more signings especially a right sided winger and a experienced centre-back. He has not happy with his defensive setup as he failed to settle on a constant defensive partnership.
Toby Alderweireld, Willian, Harry Maguire, Ivan Perisic, Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin were all linked with moves to Old Trafford.
But the Premier League didn’t add any new signing before the transfer deadline and the manager even expressed his frustration with lack of signings.
“I have my players and I like my players. I like to work with my players, one lie repeated 1000 times is still a lie, but the perception of people is that it’s true, He said
“When you repeat 1000 times that my relationship with my players is not good, a lie repeated 1000 times is still a lie. I like my players and my group.
“I enjoyed last season, the fight to finish where we finished and to manage the best position this club has had in five years. I’m going to enjoy this season.
“I know the words you want me to say or not to say. It depends on the music, but words don’t come easy [at this stage].”
“By the end of November or December you don’t need words, you’ll see by then which teams are candidates to win the Premier League,” he added.
