Manchester United star will not rush into signing an new contract extension

The player wants some time to assess his future

Luke Shaw joined Manchester United from Southampton in 2014 for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £30 million, becoming the most expensive teenager in world football. He signed a four-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.

The full-back started off his career at Old Trafford in a positive way and was progressing rapidly. But his development was curtailed as he suffered a double leg fractured in the Champions League match against PSV and was ruled out for 6 months.

The defender struggled to regain his form since he returned to full fitness and was reduced to the bench during the 2016/2017 campaign under the new manager Jose Mourinho.

Last season was more frustrating for the 23 year old as he failed to convince the Portuguese to give him a place in the starting XI and Ashley Young was preferred ahead of him. He just managed to make 19 appearances in all competition.

The England International was heavily linked with a move away this summer but the Red Devils decided to keep him. He even wanted to stay in order to prove himself this season.

Despite the club not getting off to a great start this season as they won only 1 out of the 3 games so far, he has been one of the stand out players. The player has featured in all the 3 matches and looks like he will reclaim the left-back position.

He also has been rewarded for his fine start this season as he has been recalled to the England squad and even manager Gareth Southgate hailed his desire. This is his first call up to the squad since March 2017.

Former Saints’ star future is now looking bright and could earn a new deal as he has entered the final year of his current deal.

Shaw will not rush into signing a new contract extension reports The Mirror. He wants time to assess his future and is keen to ensure first that he is the club’s long-term solution at left-back.
