Arsene Wenger expresses his concerns over Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have resigned Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus on the deadline day and will play his first game for United next week against Newcastle next week.

He will be paid £25million for his services but former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger questions the motives behind this sensational move.

Wenger said: “It’s more than just sporting reasons, it’s also emotional.

“I think the decision is not 100 per cent rational. Finding a balance in the team is a big challenge. People with a lot of experience still score a lot. I believe that Sir Alex played a big role.”

Before joining Man United back in 2004, he was extremely close to joining Arsenal and Wenger opens up on the missed opportunity.

He added: “He was supposed to go to Arsenal at the time and he [Sir Alex Ferguson] took him away from me. Today he did that with City.

“Ronaldo was at our training ground and had an Arsenal shirt, but at that time Carlos Queiroz was Sir Alex’s assistant and convinced him to buy 18-year-old Ronaldo.

“We could only pay £4million back then, Manchester United paid £12m.”

Cristiano Ronaldo could emulate Eric Cantona’s career at Man United

Cristiano Ronaldo could match Eric Cantona claims Paul Ince.

The Red Devils have re-signed Cristiano Ronaldo on a two-year contract and could help bring glory to Old Trafford once again.

Great things are expected even though the forward is now 36-years old and was the top scorer in Serie A last year netting 29 goals.

Former Red Devils midfielder Paul Ince believes Ronaldo could have a similar impact as that of Eric Cantona in 1993.

“Cantona was probably the final piece of the jigsaw that was missing for us, although we should have won the title the season before,” Ince told the Mirror.

“When Cantona came in, we already had a great team. United haven’t got a great team right now.

“They’ve got a very good team, which they’re trying to make great, but Ronaldo can be the driving force for that. His arrival will lift the fans and lift the players. You’re talking about a serial winner, one of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch.

“Every player, when Ronaldo walks through the door, will be lifted. That will heighten the intensity on the training ground and when they walk out at Old Trafford.

“He’ll have that effect. He can show the players what it’s like to be a European winner, a Champions League winner.

“He knows how to conduct himself on and off the pitch, how to train, what to eat. That can only benefit United and their pursuit of winning the title.

“But he’s not going to be the Ronaldo of 12 years ago, running up and down the wing. He’s a centre-forward now and it’s important United have the players to get the ball to him.”

Gary Neville disappointed with one player who didn’t push a move out of Old Trafford

Jesse Lingard should have moved to West Ham.

This is according to club legend Gary Neville who believes Lingard had something good going at West Ham last season and should have pushed for a move to the Hammers.

He was happy with Daniel James’ transfer to Leeds United and praised the Welsh for getting out at ‘the right time’.

Neville said: “It’s really good for Dan James. It’s one of those where this is a win-win. He came to United and always did his very best, he was a massive threat on the counter-attack, but United have a lot of players in those areas.

“It’s really important for young players to go and play, and Leeds have always wanted him. They wanted him the first time round when United got him instead. He’ll suit the way they play with such pace on the counter-attack. He’ll love it there, the crowd’s a big crowd, a club that demands a lot.

“It’s a good thing for United to get the money they did, and good for Dan to further his career at a good club.

“I’m disappointed Jesse Lingard hasn’t left. He’ll get a few games but I think he had something going at West Ham that meant he was standing up as a really good player and to go back into being a squad player again, it’s disappointing. Sometimes you need to fly the nest and go.”

“For me and my football career this is completely the right decision,” James told Sky Sports.

“I had an unbelievable time [at Manchester United]. I made great friends, the staff and fans were amazing to me. It is my time to move on career wise. I am just looking forward to it.

“I am a different player. I had maybe only played half a season the last time I nearly signed here. I have games under my belt at the top level and feel I can add something here.”

Man United reached an agreement with Juventus to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils have agreed to pay around £12.8m to Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The United legend will be returning to Old Trafford after 12 years when joined Real Madrid back in 2009.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 118 goals in 292 games for Manchester United.

Earlier club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Cristiano will be welcomed at his former club.

“I didn’t think Cristiano was gonna turn out leaving Juventus,” Solskjaer said. “And it’s been speculation this morning and the last few days.

“We’ve always had good communication. I know Bruno [Fernandes]’s been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him. And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus he knows we’re here.

“We focus on the ones we have there, I don’t want to speculate too much on Cristiano, what’s happening there with the press.

“I’ve said many times with speculation, when you’re Man United, when you’re Ronaldo, when you’re Messi, when you’re Pogba, when you’re Bruno, you have to read a lot about yourselves. So let’s see what happens with Cristiano, he’s such a legend of this club.”

Dimitar Berbatov requests Donny van de Beek to leave Old Trafford

Donny van de Beek is unhappy at Manchester United.

The 24-year old joined the Red Devils from Ajax last summer in a £35million deal.

Since then he has failed to nail a starting place and has fallen down the pecking order in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI.

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes the Dutch midfielder should push for a move this summer.

He told Betfair: “I don’t think we’re going to see any more playing time from Donny van de Beek.

“It’s a really strange, disappointing and surprising situation. They spent around £35million on him and, to pay that for a player who isn’t starting many games, doesn’t make sense.

“I’m not blaming the player at all, but for me, it’s one of the most disappointing transfers ever.”

“He’s got a lot of quality,” Berbatov said.

“But I don’t like it when clubs buy for the sake of buying, and this is one of those situations. I’m sure he’s banging on the manager’s door and asking questions.

“I think if he’s not happy, Van de Beek should push to leave. His place in the national team is at risk, especially now with Louis van Gaal in charge. Van Gaal is a disciplinarian who likes his players to play football.

“Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are untouchable in the United midfield at the moment. Scott McTominay, Fred and even 33-year-old Nemanja Matic are ahead of van de Beek.”

Rio Ferdinand urges Phil Jones to find a new club

Phil Jones is making his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

The 29-year old defender played his first game for the Red Devils in 19 months against Burnley after he was sidelined with a knee injury.

He has two years left on his contract but a chance of a regular starting spot looks slim after the arrival of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

Club legend Rio Ferdinand believes he’s taking up a youth player’s position in the squad and should pursue his footballing career elsewhere.

‘He’s taking up a youth team player’s position in that squad right now,’ Ferdinand told Vibe with FIVE.

‘He’s had too many injuries… I was in the same team as Phil Jones, he came from Blackburn as a young kid, everyone was saying he was going to be this great player.

‘Huge potential but injuries have absolutely annihilated his career and then confidence issues at certain times as well.

‘He’s never been able to fully establish himself in the team. Whether it’s injuries, lack of form, lack of confidence.

‘I think he should’ve gone ages ago. He should’ve gone before Chris Smalling went. Find a new club and play some football.’

Brandon Williams completes season-long move to Norwich City.

The Man United left-back has been sent to Carrow Road for the rest of the season to continue his development.

He initially made a huge impression in his first year with the senior team but fell down in the pecking order last year under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He has made 50 appearances for the Red Devils scoring one goal and recording three assists.

“It feels very different. It’s the first time I’ve ever played for a different club before but I’m just really excited to get started, meet everybody and get my season going,” Williams told Norwich’s in-house media.

“It’s a massive club and I like the way they play. I’ve watched them over the years and seen how they play.

“The club like to play out from the back and play football. That really inspired me to come here, and I think that the head coach can really improve me as a player. Everyone has been so welcoming. I’ve really enjoyed my time here already.”

“I can’t wait to meet everybody. I’ve just got a feeling it’ll be a good year.”

Roy Keane highlights weak spots in Southampton draw

Roy Keane had a big concern about Man United’s midfield.

The Red Devils stretched their unbeaten away run in the Premier League to 27 matches against Southampton on Sunday.

United fell behind after a Fred own goal in the first half which was later equalised 10 minutes into the second half by Mason Greenwood.

Man United did not do enough to earn all three points and Roy Keane criticised the team’s midfield who did little to support the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Pogba in the final third.

Keane told Sky Sports: “There is certainly one or two question marks with the lads in the middle of the park.

“There is not enough creativity, not enough quality and United will be disappointed with a draw, but let’s give credit to Southampton.”

Keane added: “You have got to be ready to nail him and he just dangles a leg and doesn’t do enough.

“OK, he’s unlucky with the deflection, but he has got to do more and got to do better than that.”

Jesse Lingard has been linked with a move to West Ham.

The Man United academy graduate had enjoyed an impressive six-month loan spell at West Ham last season and earned a call-up to England’s senior squad.

The Hammers are keen to sign him on a permanent deal with David Moyes confirming the club’s interest.

Man United are holding out a £30million price tag for the midfielder but the Hammers are willing to offer not more than £25million for Lingard.

“Jesse is a Manchester United player,” Moyes said.

“I mean the questions are not for me, the questions are for Manchester United. But you know we enjoyed having him.

“If the opportunity arose for us to get Jesse we would be interested, but in my mind he’s at Manchester United and it is not for us to discuss.”

“I hope to do some more business. We have been trying hard and we are trying to add to a good group of players and give ourselves more options at different times.”
