Big offer made by Manchester United for Xavi Simons declined by PSG

Manchester United tried to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s rising star, Xavi Simons, during the recent transfer window in a bid to add some depth to their line-up.

According to L’Equipe, the Red Devils have put forward an ambitious offer to bring the Dutch forward to Old Trafford, adding to their creative arsenal following the signings of Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund last summer.

Simons caught the attention of PSG after showing his talent at PSV Eindhoven with an excellent season of 22 goals and 12 assists. The Parisian club swiftly utilized a buy-back provision to bring him back into the fold. Rather than integrating him into their starting lineup, PSG chosen to loan him out to RB Leipzig, where the 20-year-old has already shown his abilities, notching three goals and four assists.

Manchester United’s bid for Simons was big, showing the club’s keen interest in the versatile winger who is capable of playing on the flanks, in the number 10 position, or even as a false 9.

Despite the efforts of the Red Devils, PSG rejected down the offer since, under the terms of the buy-back clause, any transfer fee would have benefited PSV Eindhoven totally, delaying any potential financial gain for the French champions until after the 2024 summer transfer window.

While Manchester United awaits Simons’ next move, talk abounds about whether the club could rekindle its interest in the bright prospect in future transfer windows.
