Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho feels that Romelu Lukaku’s goal-drought is like shaking a ketchup bottle.

Lukaku had a terrific World Cup where he scored 4 goals and won the Bronze Boot. There were high expectations of him to deliver in the Premier League. Lukaku even started the Premier League well, scoring 4 goals in his first 5 games. However, he hasn’t scored a single goal for Manchester United since 15th September.

The same can’t be said of his performances with following the World Cup. In the three matches that Belgium have played following the World Cup, Lukaku has scored 5 goals.

Throughout his career, Lukaku has had goal droughts that are followed by prolific scoring.

Jose Mourinho thinks that Lukaku will soon start scoring prolifically for Manchester United.

He said, “I think one of the best scorers in football had funny words about it. It was when Cristiano Ronaldo was speaking about the ketchup bottle and when you [shake it]. The goals are coming and coming and coming. I believe with Lukaku that this will happen, but the reality is that in this moment it’s not happening.

There’s been lots of matches in which he’s not scored a goal, and not just scoring but also the performances, the happiness in the performances, I think is the problem. ut he’s a good player, a good boy, and I think the best way to do it is to just keep working and the moment will arrive.”

Manchester United take on Everton at Old Trafford today. Everton will be entering the match at the back of a three-match winning streak.

About Everton, Mourinho said, “Everton have one advantage in relation to us, which is a similar potential, but much less expectations. Everything they do nicely is positive, the mood has been calm during their investments.

They’ve improved their team, they’ve had time to work, no pressure at all, and the potential is very similar. We have on us that extra factor that we are Manchester United, but we have to be strong enough and brave enough to know that it’s a game that we can win.”

Manchester United will be hoping to defeat Everton at Old Trafford today and go up the table.
