Ole Solskjaer- We Did Not Defend Set Pieces Well

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pointed out exactly where his team fell short against Liverpool.

Manchester United did not defend set pieces well because of which they fell to a 4-2 defeat on Thursday.

Roberto Firmino drilled in his first goal from close range, heading in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick. Paul Pogba could not contain the Brazilian at the back post. Even Diogo Jota’s equaliser came from a cross which The Red Devils failed to deal will.

Nat Phillips was allowed to turn and shoot at the goal while being surrounded by United players. Jota simply deflected the ball past Dean Henderson to make it level in the first half.

Solskjaer told reporters: “You never like to concede on set plays.

“We’ve done that too often, so we need to work on that. As for the way we started the second half, we want to play out from the back and we trust the players to do that.

“Once in a while it can go wrong and unfortunately today it did go wrong.

“We’ve seen so many times that it’s worked and we’ve played through teams.

“Unfortunately it’s against Liverpool when it didn’t work. It was really, really poor, the start of the second half. We gave them that third goal.”
