Sir Jim Ratcliffe has acquired a 27.7 per cent stake in Manchester United.

INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has completed a minority stake at Manchester United as it was announced officially last night.

The investment from Trawlers Ltd, which is wholly owned by Ratcliffe, has received approval from the Premier League.

It was announced on Christmas Eve that Ratcliffe has agreed to buy a 25% stake in Manchester United and infuse a $300million investment in the club’s infrastructure.

Ratcliffe is expected to invest an initial $200m in the infrastructure which has raised his shareholding to 27.7%.

The INEOS chairman will infuse a further $100m by the end of the year to increase his stake to 28.9%.

“To become co-owner of Manchester United is a great honour and comes with great responsibility,” Ratcliffe told the club’s official website.

“This marks the completion of the transaction, but just the beginning of our journey to take Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football, with world-class facilities for our fans. Work to achieve those objectives will accelerate from today.”
