Manchester United star Harry Maguire hoping to secure more game-time at Old Trafford

Harry Maguire missed Manchester United’s last seven fixtures.

Manchester United star Harry Maguire is hoping to secure more game-time at Old Trafford ahead of the FIFA World Cup next month, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Erik ten Hag’s side sealed a point at Chelsea last weekend, thanks to a stoppage-time header from Casemiro, but the central defender was not involved.

The 29-year-old has not played for Manchester United since coming on as a late substitute during the win over Arsenal last month.

He picked up a thigh injury during England’s Nations League draw against Germany, but he has stepped up his return to fitness.

The England international was due to be back in full training this week, having missed Manchester United’s last seven fixtures.

O’Rourke believes Maguire will be battling it out with Victor Lindelof for a starting berth in Manchester United’s backline ahead of the World Cup.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “If somebody is injured, it just opens the door for somebody else to come into the team – whether that’s Lindelof or Maguire.

“I’m sure Maguire will be hoping he will get more minutes between now and the World Cup so that he’s ready to go for England.”

Maguire may be returning to contention at the perfect time as Raphael Varane is set for a spell on the sidelines after limping off with an injury against Chelsea, leaving him in tears.

Manchester United lost both of the Premier League games Maguire has started this season, conceding six in the process.
