The Red Devils were interested in signing him this summer

Jose Mourinho prioritized bolstering his defensive options during the summer as he was not happy with the defensive setup last season, despite being the second best defensive team.

Manchester United were keen to sign a high profile centre-back during the summer transfer window. They were heavily linked with a move for many defenders throughout the summer but the Red Devils failed to sign anyone before the transfer deadline.

Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng was one of the players who was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Germany International joined the German side from Manchester City for a fee of €13.5 million on a four-year deal in 2011. He has been a mainstay in the defense for the club, winning six Bundesliga titles and a Champions League to go with numerous other trophies.

The 29 year old though casted some doubt over his future by admitting that he may look for new challenges and was heavily linked with a move back to Premier League before transfer deadline. Paris Saint-Germain was also interested in him but the player decided to stay with the Bundesliga giants.

Boateng has admitted that both the European giants were interested in him and also revealed why he snubbed them.

“I had enquiries from PSG and Manchester United,’ He told Bild.

“I did not want just to get away from Bayern, but I was thrilled to try a new challenge.

“I feel well at Bayern. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

“I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me,” the centre-back added.

“I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club.”
