Arsenal legend Henry Winterburn has backed Edinson Cavani to succeed at Manchester United.

The Red Devils new signing is an experienced veteran of the game but many people have doubted the ageing striker, calling him out of time or past his prime. Cavani for his part is one of the highest earners at the club but has started well to the new season scoring the winner in two matches already. And now Winterburn has put his money on El Matador.

Winterburn told FreeSuperTips: “I always said when he signed for Manchester United that people are too quick to question people’s age when moving to big teams. We always question age, when we should only look at his ability, and that certainly is not in question. You just have to look at the way he celebrated. Cavani is a top player who just loves scoring goals.

“I’ve always thought he would be successful at Manchester United. Whether he is used as a sub, or if he starts, he can be a great bonus to an already impressive range of attacking options. The Premier League fixture list now is so condensed, particularly with the European games too. He’s going to get a lot of game time, and I’ve no doubt that Edinson Cavani will score a lot of goals at Manchester United.

“He (Cavani) just puts himself in the right positions and scores terrific goals, particularly the diving header against Southampton. He’ll be judged on how many goals he gets this season, but he has started well and looks like it will continue that way. You’ll have to ask United fans If he looks a worthy purchase, but I think they’ll be delighted.”
