Manchester United ace provides update on his future

The player has been linked with a summer exit

Luke Shaw joined Manchester United from Southampton in 2014 for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £30 million, becoming the most expensive teenager in world football. He signed a four-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.

He blossomed in the Premier League with The Saints and developed himself as one the best young left-backs in the league.

The England International started off his United career in a positive way and was progressing rapidly. But his development was curtailed as he suffered a double leg fractured in the Champions League match against PSV and was ruled out for 6 months.

The defender has struggled to regain his form since he returned to full fitness and was reduced to the bench during the 2016/2017 campaign under the new manager Jose Mourinho, who replaced Louis Van Gaal.

Last season was more frustrating for the 23 year old as he failed to convince Mourinho to give him a place in the starting XI and Ashley Young was preferred ahead of him. He just managed to make 19 appearances in all competition.

The English left-back has been heavily linked with a summer exit this summer, with his contract expiring next summer. The Portuguese boss is believed to have deemed him as surplus to requirements as the club keen to get some squad members off the wage bill.

But Shaw is determined to prove his worth in the pre-season and hopes to get back in the starting XI.

“There are opportunities for all the players, not just me,” He said as quoted by Dailystar

“I look at it like that. The next five games are about fitness.

“I want to prove to the manager that I can be in his team.

“When everyone comes back, I still want to be the first name on the team-sheet. It’s time for me to show him I can be in the team.

“It has been disappointing. I look back over the last few years and I’ve not had a massive run in the team.

“The year I broke my leg I felt strong – it was unfortunate.

“I know what I can do and that’s why I am still here.

“I don’t think I would still be involved if the manager didn’t believe in me.
