Another European giants are interested in the player
Jose Mourinho prioritized bolstering his defensive options during the summer as he was not happy with the defensive setup last season, despite being the second best defensive team.
Manchester United were keen to sign a new centre-back and left-back during the transfer window. They were heavily linked with a move for players like Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Diego Godin, Alex Sandro etc.
But the Red Devils failed to sign anyone before the transfer deadline and have struggled defensively this season. Mourinho is still keen reinforce the defense in the future and there have been reports that he will be backed by the club during the January transfer window.
Manchester United are considering a move for Lucas Hernandez in the January transfer market, according to France Football.
The France International came up through the academy ranks of Atletico Madrid and made his senior debut for the club back in 2014. He was definitely promoted to the senior squad in 2015 and gradually has established himself as one of the key players for the club.
The 22 year had an excellent campaign last season, making 27 La Liga appearances for the Spanish club and helped them to win the Europa League.
After an impressing campaign, the full-back got a place in the France World Cup squad this summer and started in every matches. He helped the Les Bleus to lift the trophy after 20 years and was one of the standout players in the tournament.
Player’s versatility makes him an attractive prospect for the Premier League giants as he is comfortable playing at centre-back as well as left-back. But could face competition from Real Madrid, who were interested in signing him this summer.
However, it is unlikely Atletico will sanction a sale to it’s closest rivals. Lucas recently penned a new deal and has a £72m release clause.
