Manchester United could hijack Manchester City move for Premier League star

Both the clubs believe a January deal could be struck

Ruben Neves joined Wolves from Porto for a reported fee of £16 million last summer and was a revelation for the club last season. He caught attention with his array of impressive performances while helping his team to earn promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder, known for scoring wonder goals,  scored six goals and assisted one in the Championship during the 2017/2018 campaign. He has been dubbed the Portugese Andrea Pirlo, the Italian legend who is his hero.

He was heavily linked with a move to other Premier League clubs throughout this summer but decided to say as he felt it would be a risk for him to change clubs now.

Manchester City were one of the clubs who was linked with a move for him. Pep Guardiola prioritized signing a midfielder as he felt the club are heavily reliant on Fernandinho.

The Spaniard targeted Fred initially and then Jorginho. But the former instead joined Manchester United and the latter decided to snub them to join up with his former manager Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

The 21 year old was the subject of late interest from the Premier League wiiners in the summer transfer window, but a deal failed to materialise. However, there have been reports in the past few days they could again move for him during the January transfer window.

Manchester City reportedly believe Manchester United will hijack their move for Neves after being tipped off about their pursuit of the Wolves star, according to Metro.

Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of the Portuguese and could move for him if he becomes available in January or in next summer.
