Manchester United handed boost in pursuit of Serie A star

The player was a target for the Red Devils over the summer

Jose Mourinho prioritized bolstering his defensive options during the summer as he was not happy with the defensive setup last season, despite being the second best defensive team.

Manchester United were keen to sign a new centre-back and left-back during the transfer window. They were heavily linked with a move for players like Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Diego Godin, Alex Sandro etc.

But the Red Devils failed to sign anyone before the transfer deadline and have struggled defensively this season. Mourinho is still keen reinforce the defense in the future and there have been reports that he will be backed by the club during the January transfer window.

Manchester United target Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar refuses new contract according to Calciomercato.

The Slovakia International joined the Serie A giants from Sampdoria for a reported fee of around €20 million, signing a 5 year contract last summer. He has extablished himself as one of the best defenders in the League.

The Premier League giants were interested in signing the centre-back over the summer but the Italian side set the price tag extortionately high and that managed to discourage any potential interest.

In order to ward off further interest, they reportedly offered him a pay increase that would see him earn €2.5 million a season. But his agent believes that he deserves a better deal than his current and wants at least €3 million a season.

As a result the negotiations have stalled and Mourinho’s side hoping to take advantage of the situation by offering him a better deal.
