Axel Tuanzebe has joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.

The defender has left Old Trafford to join Championship side Stoke City in the hunt for regular minutes.

He was unavailable all season following a long injury lay-off and would have struggled for game time under Erik Ten Hag.

The 25-year-old defender will start in Stoke’s next game against Luton Town on Saturday.

An official statement said: “Unfortunately, the homegrown defender has battled a series of injuries in recent years and he has not featured under Erik ten Hag as a result.

“But he has been working hard on his fitness all campaign and is now looking forward to registering some minutes on loan.”

Tuanzebe will be Stoke’s fifth signing of the January window and is expected to get regular minutes under manager Alex Neil.

Alex Neil said: “It was important that we added to our defensive resources and Axel is a player who knows the Championship and is keen to test himself at this level again.”

Whilst the club’s technical director, Ricky Martin, added: “Axel’s pedigree speaks for itself, and we are delighted he will be with us for the remainder of the season.”
