Raphael Varane has struggled to maintain his form this season.

In the summer of 2021, the French international arrived as one of the most decorated players in world football for a fee in the region of £35million.

But the former Real Madrid star has failed to impress this season and most recently against Galatasaray.

The defender was at fault for the Turkish club’s second goal as Varane allowed a pass through his legs.

Club legend Paul Scholes has questioned the defender’s fitness level as he already missed a month of the campaign with an injury.

‘I worry about Varane a bit, he has been one of the very best defenders around, in that same ilk at Real Madrid,’ Scholes said to TNT Sports.

‘I just think his legs are looking sluggish, he can’t keep fit and I worry about him

‘Really disappointed. I actually don’t think they played that badly. All the talk before the game was that they couldn’t really score goals and there was a a lack of goals in the team.

‘It is almost as if we disregarded the defensive side of the game and the defensive side of the team it wasn’t good enough they were wide open at times.’
