Ralf Rangnick was delighted with Manchester United’s performance against Brentford as they secured a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford

Bruno Fernandes scored after 9 minutes with a fantastic goal, capping off a quick play from Diogo Dalot and Anthony Elanga.

Cristiano Ronaldo extended the advantage from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after Rico Henry fouled him. Raphael Varane then scored his first goal for the club, deceiving Brentford goalkeeper David Raya with a deflected effort.

Ronaldo also had a goal disallowed for offside, bringing his season total to 18 Premier League goals.

The win keeps United in contention for fourth place, albeit five points behind Arsenal, who have two games in hand.

“We were in control for most parts. In possession that was one of our best performances this year. It was the type of performance we wanted to show to our supporters.”

“In the end I’m not happy with the results [overall], especially in the last four or five weeks. Until the West Ham game we were still in the race in three competitions. We had good moments until that West Ham game, we conceded fewer goals but in the last few weeks performances have not been as good as they should have been. In general we have lacked consistency.”
