Raphael Varane intends to stay at Man United beyond the summer.

The French international has been unhappy with his role at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag is eyeing some defensive changes this January.

The Dutch manager has preferred the partnership of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans at the heart of defence.

He has fallen out of favour at the club and started only two games for the Red Devils this season.

Varane is way behind in the pecking order and has been overlooked by the Dutch manager and there have been reports of a rift between the manager and the player.

But Ten Hag denied such rumours and claims his decision to drop the former Real Madrid was tactical.

The Frenchman will be allowed to talk to other clubs over a pre-contract agreement in January but Varane is not seeking an exit and wants to fight for his place at the club.

Varane’s enormous wages would be a stumbling block in his pursuit of joining other European clubs and Saudi League is the only viable destination for the World Cup winner.

Bayern Munich were expected to make a move but the German side are not believed to be interested due to his mammoth salary.
