James Garner Could Be Involved Against Southampton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Hints

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted James Garner could feature against Southampton on Saturday.

Manchester United cruised to their eighth consecutive away win as they shrugged off the challenge of Crystal Palace with a very positive display. An excellent brace from Romelu Lukaku and a close finish from Ashley Young set the tone for an exciting finish to the season.

Solskjaer had suggested earlier youngster could be featured against the Eagles and he kept his word as James Garner made his Premier League debut when he replaced Fred for the last couple of minutes.

The 17 year old was likened to Michael Carrick by the manager and can play in a number of positions including midfield and the defence. With Solskjaer running out of options he now may opt for young players in the upcoming matches.

Solskjaer said, “We’ve been waiting for that chance [to introduce him to the first team],

“Of course, now with Nemanja [Matic] and Ander [Herrera] injured, there’ll be more chances for Jimmy.

We might even see him on Saturday against Southampton again.“

“I believe he has got the chance to have a great future. Of course, he has to keep working.

”He knows we believe in him. We have great faith in him as the next Michael Carrick. I know he’s young and it’s not fair on kids to compare them to great players like Michael was, but he’s in the same mould. He can see the game, he plays simple passes. He sees through the lines, like Scott McTominay did tonight.

“Michael had pressure coming in after Roy Keane. So it’s just the way it is at Manchester United.”
