Bruno Fernandes has opened up about his role in assisting Manchester United’s growing talents in dealing with the inevitable attention that comes with donning the legendary Red Devils uniform in an admirable demonstration of togetherness.

As media attention grows, particularly ahead of a difficult 2023/24 season, Fernandes has emerged as a mentor figure, leading the younger players through the ups and downs of professional football.

Fernandes addressed the necessity for older players to assist young prospects “learn” from poor performances in an interview with TNT Sports.

“I think for young players when they come through, it’s easier in the beginning but it gets hard when they start doing something really good because as soon as they get some game where it’s not going so well they’re going to get the criticism,” he said.

“They have to deal with that and I think us as experienced players, senior players, we have to help them on that and make sure they understand that it’s not everything bad when [things] go wrong and it’s not everything perfect when it goes good.

“It’s not only on football, you always try to help everyone that you know. I’m a father now so my daughter, for example, goes to gymnastics and sometimes she wins and sometimes she doesn’t get onto the podium and you have to make her understand that some days you win and some days you learn.”

Against Everton, the spotlight focused brightly on young players Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo during the team’s recent resurgence in the Premier League, underlined by three consecutive wins and a clean sheet run.

With all eyes on the coming UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray, Fernandes’ mentorship offers an important layer of support, urging confidence in the young players as they negotiate the challenges that come with playing for one of the world’s most prestigious football clubs.
