Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is close to signing for AS Roma

When his contract at Old Trafford expired this summer, the central midfielder, 33, left.

According to football experts Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, the seasoned Serbian is set to finalise his move to the Italian team in the near future.

After joining the Red Devils for £40 million from Chelsea in July 2017, Matic made 189 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring four goals.

Mourinho, who previously bought him for United and the Blues, is said to have demanded the signing.

If the deal goes through, the Portuguese will be reunited with the 48-cap former international.

The Serbian midfielder is poised to rejoin boss Jose Mourinho in the Italian city after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer.

According to Di Marzio, the 33-year-old will sign a one-year deal with the capital club.

Roma are nearing completion on a deal that already has a personal agreement in place.

The Giallorossi will make their first acquisitions of the 2019 transfer window with Nemanja Mati and ex-Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar. Both players will join the club as unrestricted free agents.
