Marcel Sabitzer picked up an injury in the warm-up against Nottingham Forest.
The Austrian midfielder was named in the Man United starting lineup against Nottingham but picked up a groin injury in the warm-up.
A late withdrawal was on the cards and Christian Eriksen took his place in the starting XI.
He will undergo an assessment at Carrington and a further update will be released by the club.
The midfielder who wants to sign for Man United permanently scored twice on Thursday night in the 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Europa League.
“He had a problem in the warm-up,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “We didn’t take the risk because we already have some injuries, so we have to find out tomorrow [Monday]. Hopefully it’s not a big injury. We chose not to go into the game with risk.
“[That’s because] you have either have to take him off really quick and we might make the injury worse.”
The 29-year-old midfielder joins Tom Heaton, Tyrell Malacia, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Donny Van de Beek, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho in the treatment room.
