Erik ten Hag gives an update on Raphael Varane injury

Raphael Varane left the pitch in tears as injury casts doubt on World Cup.

The club will take 24 hours to assess the defender’s condition and the severity of his injury.

The Frenchman has built a formidable partnership with Lisandro Martinez in the centre of defence and a serious injury could rule him out of the Qatar World Cup.

The assessment will understand the extend of his injury and will determine whether he’s going to miss the World Cup next month.

“Nothing in this moment,” Erik ten Hag replied when asked about Varane. “We have all seen he came off but with an injury like this we always have to wait a minimum 24 hours and the medical staff can do their job and can set the diagnosis.

“I can understand (his reaction), we can all probably understand he will be emotional but he also has to wait, you don’t know.

“He’s experienced but the medicals have to do their job, have to make an assessment, set the right diagnosis and from there on come to the conclusion.”
