Manchester United have joined a battle with Real Madrid and Manchester City for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni
According to Fichajes, Erik ten Hag’s “main passion” is Bastoni.
With the manager’s sports initiative characterised as “exciting everyone,” United may have emerged as the ideal suitor.
Bastoni would provide Ten Hag with another left-footed option in centre defence, where he currently has just Lisandro Martinez.
However, according to the source, Man United will not make the deal this winter.
Bastoni would almost certainly be a summer possibility, according to Fichajas, who claims the player “may be one of the great acquisitions of the Manchester United for 2023/2024.”
While Martinez has been a revelation since joining the club this season, Bastoni might provide Ten Hag with an opportunity to rotate.
He may even dabble with alternative systems in specific games.
The Dutch coach has utilised a back three at times in his career, but he has not had the opportunity to do so at United owing to a lack of defensive depth.
Martinez’s flexibility should also be considered, since the player has previously played in midfield and at left back.
Nonetheless, it is doubtful that United would waste money on a position where they look to have found a good option.
As a result, in order for a transaction to be feasible, Bastoni would need to be available for a decent price.
