Luke Shaw Insists Under Jose Mourinho He Might Not Have Won The Award

The left-back has been impressive so far this season

Luke Shaw joined Manchester United from Southampton in 2014 for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £30 million, becoming the most expensive teenager in world football. He signed a four-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.

The full-back started off his career at Old Trafford in a positive way and was progressing rapidly. But his development was curtailed as he suffered a double leg fractured in the Champions League match against PSV and was ruled out for 6 months.

Last season was frustrating for the 23 year old as he failed to convince Jose Mourinho to give him a place in the starting XI and Ashley Young was preferred ahead of him. He just managed to make 19 appearances in all competition.

The England International was heavily linked with a move away this summer but the Red Devils decided to keep him. He even wanted to stay in order to prove himself this season.

Despite the club not getting off to a great start this season as they won only 1 out of the 3 games so far, he has been one of the stand out players. The player has featured in all the 3 matches and looks like he will reclaim the left-back position.

He also has been rewarded for his fine start this season as he has been recalled to the England squad and even manager Gareth Southgate hailed his desire. This is his first call up to the squad since March 2017.

Mourinho has claimed that Shaw deserves England recall and believes he has earned it after an impressive start this season.

He said as quoted by Sky Sports: “It is a big week for him that ends with a very important match against Burnley. That is the most important thing.

“He has played three very good matches and it is not easy to play three very good matches when your team loses two of them.

“He had that balance, that consistency, that even when the team didn’t win and especially the game against Brighton where the team didn’t play well, he kept that consistency. That is very important.

“He is physically stronger and mentally stronger. Tactically he has a better understanding of the game and I think to go to the national team after three Premier League matches is for him an extraordinary feeling.”
