Manchester United considering a move for Mario Mandzukic

Jose Mourinho wants backup to Romelu Liukaku

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign this season, not winning a single silverware. Their priority is to add defensive reinforcements and club will also look to sell few players to accommodate new signings.

But Jose Mourinho also keen to bolster his forward line this summer as he wants potential back-up to Romelu Lukaku.

The Red Devils were clearly very dependent on the Belgian last term, as they struggled when he got injured and missed few matches towards the end of the campaign. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial struggled to make an impact upfront as they usually does on the left plank.

Manchester United are considering a move for Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic according to Calciomercato. The representatives of both the clubs may meet to discuss the future of several of their players.

The Croatian joined the Serie A giants from Atlético Madrid on a four-year contract for a fee of €19 million payable in three installments, including a possible extra €2 million in performance-related add-ons in 2015.

He has been a regular for the club since then and has won three consecutive Serie A titles. He also featured in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2017, where he scored an equalizer but the Turin Side ultimately lost 4-1.

Despite being a regular for the Serie A giants last season, the 32 year old struggled and managed to score only 10 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions.

But the player still has some years left to play football at the highest level and could be more than a decent backup for the Belgian. But Juventus is not expected to let him leave unless they find a proper replacement.

Mandzukic is currently at the world cup and played in their first game of Group D against Nigeria on Saturday. They won the game 2-0 as an own goal was scored by their oppositions and Luka Modric converted a penalty.
