If reports from The Sun are to be believed, Manchester United are keen on extending Eric Bailly’s stay by offering him a new contract. The Ivorian is currently nursing an injury and the Red Devils are adamant on losing him on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

The 25-year-old joined United from Villareal in a £26m deal in 2016. Following an impressive debut season, his time at United has been marred massively due to injuries.

However, Solskjaer is still said to be a big fan of the defender. The Norwegian wants him to continue at Old Trafford and fight for a first-team spot while playing as a back-up for Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

United recently spent a fortune of £80m to bring Harry Maguire to Old Trafford this summer. Bailly currently earns £120k per week and United are keen to extend his stay in order to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Bailly is currently on the sidelines due to a medial knee ligament injury which has ruled him out until January.

Manchester United will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their second league game of the season, following a thumping 4-0 victory over Chelsea last weekend.
