With Allegri currently unemployed, Marcello Lippi has told the former Milan and Juve boss to wait for the United job.

“Allegri would be good everywhere and as a great admirer of the English club I would be happy to see him take over,” the 71-year-old told The Daily Mail.

“Manchester United is the history of English football. There have been dark years but the club is fantastic, from the backroom to the players, everyone can say what it means to play at Old Trafford.

“First of all, I think Solskjaer was an exceptional striker and a good coach. For Allegri, I consider him an exemplary professional who has the style of Juventus in his blood.

“My deep friendship with [Sir Alex] Ferguson allows me to say that he would be the best choice for United.

“Allegri studies English and is perfect for the British style. He is prepared and shrewd. He reads the game with great ease.

“He loves challenges and I respect him a lot, I think he is serious and prepared, I think he is a humble person. A great Italian who would do very well in England.

“I can tell you that he is ready for United.”

One of the top January targets for Manchester United in thomas Muller.

Now, his former teammate lifts the lid on a previous link.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed that Louis van Gaal was desperate to sign Thomas Muller at Manchester United. The former Bayern Munich midfielder completed a move to Old Trafford in July 2015 but departed in March 2017 after it became clear that he was not in the plans of Jose Mourinho.

United have established fresh interest in another Bayern player ahead of January, Thomas Muller, following a dreadful start to the 2019-20 campaign. Speaking in an interview for Bild am Sonntag, Schweinsteiger revealed that Van Gaal was adamant about completing the signing of Muller, who he managed during his time at the Allianz Arena.

“Van Gaal really wanted him, always asked me, ‘What’s your friend Thomas Muller doing?’ He would have done us good on United back then.

“But Thomas was a bit younger, he did not want to leave Munich. Maybe that has changed in the meantime. His situation is different to mine back then. I was playing every game, then van Gaal contacted me, I wanted to try something new.

While United’s approach for Muller went nowhere in 2015, with the German happy winning trophies in Munich, there are several reports suggesting that the striker is considering a move away having lost his starting place under Niko Kovac.

Which is why the now retired German legend has urged Muller to re-consider move to the Red Devils: “Thomas is often on the bench lately, a change of air can do him good at the end of his career. He still has great quality.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been slammed by BBC pundits for over relying on Marcus Rashford.

After selecting Bournemouth goalscorer Josh King in his BBC Team of the Week, Crooks wrote: “It would appear, however, that there seems an over-reliance developing by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Marcus Rashford.

“Solskjaer needs to be reminded that Rashford is only 22 and Manchester United one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“To ask such a young man to carry so much responsibility, often on his own, is bordering on carelessness.”

United again lost to Bournemouth but Ole was ever adamant.

Speaking afterwards, Solskjaer – who has only overseen three wins from 11 Premier League games this season with United languishing in 10th on 13 points – admitted the result was “a step back”.

The Norwegian told BBC Sport’s Match of the Day: “You are always very down when you lose and considering the form we were in we were hoping to take the three points.

“It is a step back for us today, but we need to shake it off and go again.

“We could not capitalise on the good start and a moment of magic won the game for them, sometimes you just hold up your hands and say: ‘Well done’.

“Mason Greenwood was unlucky when he hit the post, I saw him scoring those chances more than missing them, but he will come good.

“I thought Rashford and Martial defended very well against them, but in games like this one it is so important get the first goal and they did it.”

Bayern Munich sacked Niko Kovac the night before yesterday.

The Bayern boss was sacked due to a run of bad results and the final nail on the coffin was a 5-1 loss to Frankfurt.

The Bundesliga champions are now without a boss. They will be looking everywhere for quality and in Jose Mourinho there is a ready made winner.

Mourinho has so far won titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain. He is a champion whichever country he has been to.

Now his former player Schweinsteiger has said that Jose would be tempted by the Bayern job.

“I can imagine Mourinho in Germany”, said Schweinsteiger, the former Bayern captain, in an interview with Bild.

“I remember he was always asking me about Bayern and the Bundesliga. During our away games, there was always Bundesliga on TV.

“He really knew every single player, even from the smaller teams. He was also learning German.

“He has not worked in the Bundesliga, so I can well imagine that he would be tempted by a commitment in Germany.”

Jose is currently without a job having been sacked by Manchester United last year after a run of poor results.

Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best managers in world football. Certainly many can claim with good reason that he is the best as well.

Fergie had challenges all throughout his career and he consistently overcame them all. There was Wenger, Mourinho, Ancelotti and many more who Fergie toppled.

However, one young man from Catalonia had broken through the ranks and become the coach of Barcelona. Under that man, there was Lionel Messi,Xavi and Iniesta.

Around them, that same man, or Pep as we know him, built a brilliant team that conquered world football; including Fergie’s United team.

Recalling the team of 2009, Guardiola told BT Sport’s What I Wore: “That Manchester United was outrageous, it was outstanding.

“So you know Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez, Berbatov, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Ferdinand, Vidic, Van der Sar. It was an incredible team.

“We had a lot of problems their with the back four. We had three injuries in the starting XI.

“But we (Barcelona) were full of confidence, we’d won the league and the cup and we did it.”

To make matters worse for United, Pep is now the boss of City, United’s arch rivals.

Rio Ferdinand explains why he disagreed with Sir Alex Ferguson’s approach tactic when Barcelona defeated Manchester United in the 2011 Champions League.

“The plan was to really to go and meet them high,” Ferdinand revealed.

“Meet them, press them high and try and win the ball early and then obviously go for the jugular.”

“We done that, to be fair, with the goal we scored, but in the main we didn’t have the ball in the midfield area.

“This area is key in big games, you need to dominate that area and then you’ve got a good chance of winning it. And they outnumbered us.”

Ferdinand also said that he had voiced his concerns to Ferguson over the approach of playing with two midfielders against Barcelona’s strong centre.

“They’d done us in Rome (in the 2009 final), and they’d probably got three in that area – Messi, Xavi and Iniesta – three of probably the top six players in the world in that time.”

The Swede veteran is closing in on a return to a former club.

However, it is not United.

Manchester United target Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly set for a return to AC Milan as he closes in on a departure from LA Galaxy.

The legendary Swedish striker is pondering his next move after LA Galaxy’s season ended in defeat in the MLS Cup play-offs to rivals LAFC, as his contract expires in December.

With the 38-year-old widely expected to return to Europe, where he last played for Manchester United, Serie A clubs Napoli and Bologna have made no secrets of their interest in signing him.

However it is Marca that reports Ibrahimovic is likely to move back to Italy and play for AC Milan despite recent links to Red Devils comeback. The English side have been struggling for goals this season with Marcus Rashford carrying a lot of the burden and Paul Ince recently told United to bring back the Swede.

The report adds that AC Milan are now leading the race to sign Ibrahimovic as he closes in on his next destination. He initially joined the Italian club on loan from Barcelona in 2010 before making the switch permanent a year later.

In total, the Swede scored 56 goals in 85 games for the Rossoneri and won the Serie A title in the 2010-11 season as well as the 2011 Supercoppa Italiana.

The Red Devils failed to win this weekend.

And their summer arrival knows who is to point the finger towards.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has blamed the forwards for failing to score from the numerous chances they got early in the first half in 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth.

Joshua King’s goal just seconds before the half-time whistle turned out to be the only difference between the two sides in the Premier League encounter. United’s new signing from Leicester City, Maguire explained that the quality in the final third wasn’t good enough from their side and they struggled to create clear cut chances in the second half.

“Disappointed. We conceded at an awful time at a stage where we started the game really well. The first 20 minutes we were well on top, we have got to score in that period, with numerous chances,” Maguire told MUTV when asked how he feels about the result.

“The quality in the final third was not good enough to create a real clear cut chance, then they came into the game at the end of the first-half and it is an awful time to concede just before half-time, it is probably the worst.

“Disappointing that we huffed and puffed in second-half, we had them pinned back coming off the back of three away games we were confident going in to the game. In the end we are really disappointed.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for their recent form.

The boss has said that the return of Martial has helped Rashford return to form.

He said, “I think since Anthony (Martial) has come back, Marcus has flourished,” the Norwegian said at his press conference.

“He’s probably happier facing goal, being direct, driving at people, taking players on instead of being that target man – back to goal.

Manchester United have been of a decent run lately. They drew versus Liverpool and then registered three wins on the trot including beating Chelsea at the Bridge.

Their boss Ole has now said that the team’s confidence is on the high.

‘There are many things that give me loads of confidence,’ the United manager said.

‘We can talk about performance but it’s results that matter. You can talk about results, I can talk about six out of seven good performances.

‘West Ham, we know, was below par [losing 2-0] but it wasn’t as bad as you lot made it out to be.’

‘How many times have we been 1-0 up and not got the second goal?’ Solskjær said.

‘This is a steep learning curve for us and we’ll keep working hard and, with more experience, we’ll make the right decisions.

‘It’s another game that we’re 1-0 up – Southampton, Wolverhampton, we need to learn to win these games.’

The United team under Ole has looked somewhat disjointed with the manager making mostly delusional comments about how they are getting close.

United remain far off the top tier teams with their best players unwilling to stay at the club.
