It is no secret that Manchester United are lacking quality in midfield.

Their former midfield star Paul Scholes has now waded in and outlines the exact type of player United should look to buy in the January transfer market.

“There’s a lot made of midfielders nowadays, are they a holding midfielder or an attacking midfielder which does my head in a little bit,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“As a good midfielder you need to be able to do a bit of everything.

“As a central midfield player, especially at Man United, you have to be capable of doing everything.

“You have to be able to help your defence, you have to help in attack.

“It’s not just about sitting and being a holding midfield player. It’s not just about getting forward. You have to have a bit of everything as players I played with had.”

Ole worried for McTominay, confident about Maguire

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that he is worried about the injury suffered by Scott McTominay.

United suffered injuries to both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. While the boss was confident about Maguire’s knock, young Scott’s injury did get him concerned.

I think Harry will be okay. He finished the game anyway,” he told MUTV. “Scott is more of a concern, so let’s see how he recovers in the next few days.

“He said he was going to be okay out on the pitch and he said ‘I’ll be fine’. He’s tough, but he had to come off. I hope he’ll recover for Sunday, but I don’t know. Inside of his ankle. I think he went over on his ankle.”

McTominay has been a midfield mainstay in United’s team this season. The Red Devils have been left very short stacked in the midfield department.

Their star man Paul Pogba, has been injured for a while now. He got injured back in September and is now looking to get fit by December.

While Ole can make signings in January, there are no players he can turn to now if McTominay gets injured. Fred is still inconsistent and Matic is well beyond his prime.

Manchester United Must Improve After 3-0 Victory – Marcus Rashford

Manchester United Must Improve After 3-0 Victory - Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford wants Manchester United to be more decisive after a 3-0 win secured their place in the Europa League knockout stage.

It was United’s biggest win since the opening day 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea in the Premier League.

“I think it was a good performance but there are things we can improve on,” said Rashford after the game. “We managed to score three goals but it could have been a lot more.

“There were a couple of times where I was half a yard too forward, so it was a game of fine margins, but we’re happy with the three goals. For me, it’s about recognising it and trying to correct it in the next game, but I won’t let it stay on my mind for too long.”

Rashford praised his strike partner, Mason Greenwood, who opened the scoring for the Red Devils last night. “He’s done very well,” said Rashford. “He just needs to keep knuckling down and working hard and the goals will come, because he has a lot of quality.

“We’re pleased to have qualified, but we really want to finish in top position and we have two more games to do it so we are in a good position.”

United Teenager A Better Goalscorer Than Marcus Rashford – Paul Scholes

United Teenager A Better Goalscorer Than Marcus Rashford - Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes has backed Mason Greenwood to surpass Marcus Rashford in goalscoring feat.

Manchester United’s next generation of youth players have gained a lot of attention.

Greenwood’s performances at U21 level has earned a promotion to the senior side this term under Ole Solskjaer. The likes of Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes have also been tipped to be future stars but could they be better than Marcus Rashford?

Scholes believes Greenwood has what it takes to be a better striker than Rashford as he said, “Everything seems so smooth.

“We talk about United not having a No.9 but he [Greenwood] could be a No.9 because of that sheer composure he has in front of goal. He calms himself down, he takes a touch. Marcus is capable of brilliant things and probably a scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer.

“I think he lacks that little bit of composure. I think Mason will eventually be a better goalscorer than Marcus. But they both bring real quality to the team in forward areas which we’ve been lacking.”

Rashford is the leading goalscorer for United this season with 5 in 11 Premier League appearances. Despite his performances in front of goal, the Red Devils are struggling to find the back of the net as a team.

Manchester United captain Ashley Young has told his teammates to go for another winning run after Bournemouth defeat.

“I know what I see day in, day out at training,” Young said at the pre-match press conference.

“The boys have been working as hard as possible to go out and get results. Obviously things haven’t gone as well as we’d have liked. But that’s not going to dampen our spirits.

“We’ve got a good game to go and qualify out of the group stages and we’ve got games coming up that we believe are winnable games so I think from tomorrow’s game we go on another run and keep putting points on the board.”

United were on a mini hot run until they met Bournemouth. Their run began when they dispatched Liverpool at home with a 1-1 draw when everyone expected them to lose heavily. It was followed by wins in Europe, a win against Norwich away from home and beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup at the Bridge.

However, last week they lost to Bournemouth 1-0 and were poor in the defeat. They will now want to turn it around against Belgrade.

Ole wants to bring in youth for Europa

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that he will be looking to play youngsters for the matches in the Europa League.

He said, “We’ve seen some young players getting a chance and doing well. Mason [Greenwood] has given us a winner, Brandon [Williams] was fantastic in Belgrade.

”I thought Jimmy [Garner] came through that game really well. We have given other players a chance to play, which is important in the long run because you can’t keep playing with 12 or 13 men throughout the Premier League season.

“For me, it’s been good to give young kids a chance, good to see players, that have got more experience, play games because they need games. We’ve kept three clean sheets and that’s impressive.”

When asked if it was a chore to be involved in the Europa League with Premier League points a priority, the boss said: “No, of course not. The last time we were in it, Ashley [Young, who was also at the press confernce] was in the squad and they won and got us through to the Champions League.

”Any competition you can get your hands on, you take. We’ve started really well and we want to get all the way to Gdansk.“

Rashford wants top four

Rashford wants top four

Marcus Rashford has backed Manchester United to finish in the top four.

United are currently struggling to make even top 10 but Rashford remains confident Ole will help the team turn things around with his massive coaching experience of winning things.

“It’s going to be tough [to get into the top four] but it’s nowhere near impossible. We don’t need to focus on any other teams, we play our best football when we focus on ourselves and us improving.

“That’s the only way Man Utd play good football and we need to get back to doing that. It can be very simple for us and at the same time, you don’t want to make it complicated for yourself.

The main thing is bouncing back. I always think with home games, if you’re energetic on the pitch, you’re making runs and you’re lively, you win games more often than not.

Old Trafford is a special place and if we do that with the fans behind us, it’s a tough place to come. With the tempo we play at when we’re at our best, it’s very hard to stop us so we use it as a template and we need to get back to doing that.

“I just look at the games where we’ve done it well and the games where we haven’t. You weigh them up and look at how you can be more consistent in the games you’ve done well in.

“There was the game against Leicester where it wasn’t 90 minutes of fun but you go through the game. We won 1-0 and it does a lot for the team and you as an individual. But ideally, you want that support there and you want to be in positions to help your team-mates.”

Rashford requests urgency from United

Marcu Rashford has urged the Manchester United side to be more urgent and consistent in their chase for top four.

“The consistency in the performance and the consistency in the games you win are two completely different things,” he told Sky Sports.

“Out of 38 league games, you’re not going to play well 38 times but just because you don’t play well, doesn’t mean you can’t win the game and that’s the thing we can improve on. When we’re not quite playing at our best, we can find a way to get over the line.

“If we control the moments when the opposition are on top better, I’m sure in time we will know how to control them, their fans, the tempo that they play at and once we do that, we can start to win consistently.”

“It’s going to be tough [to get into the top four] but it’s nowhere near impossible. We don’t need to focus on any other teams, we play our best football when we focus on ourselves and us improving.

Jose Mourinho blocked Marco Verratti & Raphael Varane to Manchester United

Ed Woodward wanted the Real Madrid and PSG duo.

However, it is Mourinho that blocked Manchester United move.

Almost a year after Jose Mourinho was sacked as Manchester United manager, we continue to unravel details of his troubled spell at the Red Devils. A new report now suggests Ed Woodward wanted to sign two top names to the club, but Mourinho blocked the move.

Manchester Evening News claims that Ed Woodward, Manchester United’s executive Vice Chairman approached Mourinho with a proposal to try and sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Paris Saint Germain’s Marco Verratti during the summer transfer window in 2018.

However, the Portuguese did not even consider Woodward’s idea as he was opinion that it was quite difficult to land either player, despite being ready to offer a collective transfer fee of £200 million for both players.

Instead, United signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant in the final transfer window with Mourinho at the helm, spending a total of £72.5m in the process.

Woodward has since stepped away from United’s recruitment strategy, and the executive vice-chairman now simply signs off deals instead. Signing Varane actually might have been possible back in 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm, but even the Scot was unable to get past the wily Zinedine Zidane, who got Varane to Real Madrid instead.

“I hurtled down on the train from Euston to Lille to sign the young French defender Rapahel Varane,” Ferguson wrote in his book back in 2015.

“David Gill was getting into the finer points of the contract with Lens when Zinedine Zidane got wind of this and somehow scooped him up for Real Madrid from under our noses.”
