The World Cup winner has been sidelined since the end of the September.

However, he could soon be back playing for the Red Devils.

Paul Pogba had his ankle cast removed on Monday as the Manchester United star edges towards a return from injury. The France international, who has made just five Premier League appearances this season, has been sidelined since late September.

During the international break in October, the former Juventus man headed to Dubai for some warm weather training in a bid to get over the niggle, but was unable to do so. He subsequently had a cast fitted around his ankle in order to aid his recovery and the 26-year-old passed a huge landmark in his rehabilitation on Monday.

Pogba traveled to Amsterdam to have the cast removed and recorded the procedure, which he later posted on Instagram. The Frenchman could be seen smiling as the cast was taken off using a drill, no doubt knowing a frustrating period in his career will soon be over.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said recently he expected to be without Pogba until December. It means the midfielder will spend the next few weeks building his fitness up, with the Manchester derby against fierce rivals City on 7 December, a possible date for his return.

In his absence, Scott McTominay and Fred have begun building a good partnership in the heart of the pitch for the Red Devils and the Frenchman may have a battle on his hand to regain his starting spot.

Why Manchester United pulled out of race to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic

After all, it seems there won’t be any sweet return for Ibra.

Why, you ask?

Manchester United’s administration is not preparing to offer LA Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic a contract. The Swede is a free agent after leaving LA Galaxy following two seasons in Major League Soccer following his departure from Old Trafford in 2018.

The 38-year-old was sensational during his first season at the Theatre of Dreams, scoring 26 goals in all competitions. But a knee injury towards the end of his debut campaign ensured Ibrahimovic was unable to reach the same heights upon his return. However, the Swede rediscovered his form in America and recent reports have linked him with a short-term return to United.

But Sky Sports claim United will not seek a deal for the veteran as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not want short-term fixes. The Norwegian boss is keen on signing a striker in January, as there were already reports that personal terms have already been agreed with one forward.

Manchester Unitedd are already expected to target a centre-forward in the new year after struggling for goals so far this season. Due to this very reason, Juventus’ veteran forward Mario Mandzukic has also emerged as a key target for the Red Devils over the past few weeks.

Earlier last week, MLS commissioner Don Graber famously claimed that Ibrahimovic is already on his way to AC Milan – which is another one of his former clubs.

“Zlatan is an interesting character. He keeps me very busy and you need this kind of players like what happened with Beckham a few years ago,” Graber told ESPN. “He is 38 years old and is now being recruited by AC Milan, one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Manchester United Need 5 New Signings – Gary Neville

Manchester United are short of 5 new players from becoming a complete team, states Gary Neville.

He told Sky Sports, “It’s been a really good month for Manchester United, barring the Bournemouth defeat. That game was frustrating and took us back a few steps but generally it’s been a better month than the one before.

“You can see some real excitement with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Daniel James, there’s something to work on there. Defensively, with Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, there’s something to work on there too. The young boy Brandon Williams gives me a great deal of hope.”

Adding on his own podcast, Neville said: “Look, Manchester United need four or five players with real quality and experience. They really need another centre-back, they need a left-back, and a couple of central midfielders and a striker or a forward.

“That’s not going to change and won’t change entirely even after January. But there’s something there.”

Manchester United went past Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 last weekend, recording their fifth win in the last six games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have steadied the ship for now but he desperately needs more depth to tackle the demands of Premier League and European football.

Reports claim he will be handed a huge treasure chest to make additions in the January window. James Maddison and Christian Eriksen seem to be on top of the manager’s wishlist.

James talks up Martial links in attacking play at Manchester

Daniel James has talked up how the return of Anthony Martial in attack has helped the club reform the attacking link.

“Since he’s come back in we’ve got that focal point,” James told the Daily Mirror. “He’s a great link-up player. He can come short or go in behind.

“It’s been important for me and for Marcus since he’s come back into the team to get that interlink. Since he’s come back he’s got goals and he’s got assists and he’s been great for us.

“It was important to get three points going into the international break and move up the table. When we get back we’ve got a tough opposition against Sheffield United.

“The boys who aren’t going away on internationals can have a break now and then we’ve got a nice build up next week to go there and really perform.”

“The football we played was great,” added James. “We knew they were going to play, it was just about stopping that high up.

“I think that’s what we did and that’s where we got the goals from, winning it back in midfield and playing it forward.

“We’re really enjoying our football at the minute. Maybe it’s taken a few weeks to mould, but we’ve all got that connection together and it’s important.”

James added: “I’ve been used to it. Last season in the Championship, I had a lot of hits.

“If a defender hits you and you stay down, he might think he’s got the better of you, so to get up and keep going is important.

“I’ve always had it. It’s important to keep getting back up. It’s part of the game. If I can get forward and win free-kicks high up, then it’s good. It’s important to keep getting back up, keep playing and I enjoy it.

“Coming in was always going to be tough and it was going to be different from playing in the Championship.

“I think I’ve taken it in my stride, tried to calm myself down a bit and think ‘I’m here for a reason’.

France NT boss Didier Deschamps has said that Martial is a major part of his plans.

“He was part of the French team on a regular basis, but recently he was often injured,” he said.

“He came back not so long ago and it’s going well in his role as a central striker with Manchester United.

“But for a long time he’s been part of the players likely to be called.”

Deschamps also declared his trust in Giroud.

“Maybe that means something but it’s mostly what happened on the pitch that means something,” he added.

“If he is the one I used the most, do not forget either the ratio of matches and goals.

“There are not many in front of him in terms of goals in the history of the France team. He did the right thing, he answered the trust.”

Deschamps also expects Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe to be fit to feature even though he missed the 2-1 Ligue 1 win at Brest on Saturday with a muscular issue.

“He [Mbappe] has not arrived yet, [but] will be there,” Deschamps said. “There was a communication between the two doctors on the fact it was a precaution.

“There was no particular concern compared to our deadline of Thursday.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Harry Maguire as long-term Manchester United captain

Harry Maguire captained Manchester United on Sunday.

Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggests he could hold that position permanently.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backed Harry Maguire to be the club’s captain in the long-term after wearing the armband in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat of Brighton and Hove Albion. United cruised to a comfortable victory at Old Trafford against Brighton, with the visitors arguably lucky to avoid losing by a crushing scoreline.

Maguire led the team out as captain and put in a generally commanding display at the back, as he continues to look a solid acquisition following his reported €90 million switch from Leicester City.

The centre-back was captain in the absence of Ashley Young, though Solskjaer suggested Maguire could potentially get even more familiar with the position in years to come.

“Harry has come in and been excellent in the dressing room and on the pitch,” Solskjaer told Evening Standard. “He can be a long-term captain.”

The one dampener on United’s win was a late ankle injury suffered by Scott McTominay, as he appeared to roll his foot and was left in agony. While he was able to hobble off the pitch aided by United’s medical staff, after the match he was carried away on a stretcher.

“He went over on his ankle,” said Solskjaer. “It’s a painful one sometimes. I have had one, I was out for eight weeks but then again sometimes you have one and you’re back in two weeks. I don’t know.

“He is in for a scan tomorrow and then we’ll have to see, with the ice there. But it looked painful, he is not one for rolling around. He didn’t really roll around, because that is probably the sign he is injured. All the players that keep rolling are not injured.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a message for all Manchester United fans. He insists that he wants to make them happy.

“We need a good result, we want a good result, we are going to give everything we can to get a good result. Because I think the fans deserve it and we owe them that.

“They have been backing us through this difficult period and hopefully we can continue the good home form. Liverpool was a good performance, Partizan was a good performance and the fans have been great so we are ready.”

“Their last few results and performances have been impressive,” he said. “Not just the results, but the way they have played.

“They are going to come here and play their football, so we have got to be ready. We have watched them quite a few times, of course. When I came here in December, we played them early on and they gave us a good game then. They are a good footballing side. Hopefully, Thursday night wasn’t too hard on the players because we will need energy today.”

“I don’t think you need more days than a couple in between,” he states. “We had five days after Bournemouth to get ready for the game against Partizan and it was two days in between for Brighton, so it was a quicker turnaround. But we recovered.

“We have got a good sports science department, good physios, they have good treatments, the players are professional and they look after themselves. Confidence after Thursday night is high.”

Scholes calls for more support for Ole

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has called for more support for under fire United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Scholes said, “We know behind the scenes there is help needed, especially on the football side. You look at the business side and it’s great, Ed Woodward is very good at that. But as a football man? I don’t think he’s a football man.”

In the past we had Sir Alex and David Gill. David Gill was brilliant, absolutely brilliant, and he’s been a massive miss for football club. He knew football players inside out. He knew a good player when he saw one and he disagreed with the manager.”

“Now is the time where there needs to be a bit of help for Ole. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some good people around – the chief scout, Phelan, great experience. But now is the time when he really needs some help to really bring some top players to this club.”

The comments may be encouraging for Ole but do sound a little hypocritical from Scholes. The former player kept singing for Jose to be fired even though United were better under the Portuguese than Ole.

Why Solskjaer wants boring players at Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants his players to lead a boring life to become successful footballers.

Ole has compared the players from his generation the modern day superstars and said that whoever wants to be a great footballer, needs to sacrifice on having fun outside football until their playing days come to an end.

‘When you’re a footballer, you should be proper boring,” he told the media ahead of Sunday’s game with Brighton.

“You go to bed, rest, recover and get ready for the next game. You can do all the other stuff after your career.

“In between games from July to the middle of May, football should be your only thought. Then you have a summer holiday to do the other stuff. That’s the way I was – boring. Loads of my team-mates were boring and that’s why we became successful.”

“Now it’s impossible for them to do something because I get to know!” he joked.

“I want these boys to get the most out of their career. It is the best feeling in the world when you are part of a winning Manchester United team. That is what we are working for.”

As recent as earlier in the summer this year, two of Solskjaer’s players in Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard went viral over some social media content and maybe Ole was hinting at his other players to learn from those mistakes.

Schole not sure about Lindelof

Schole not sure about Lindelof

Despite making a bright start under Ole Gunnar Solskjar, former United midfielder Paul Scholes remains skeptical about Victor Lindelof. This is what he had to say.

“You look at the league position and it’s been difficult. This competition there is a lack of shots, a lack of attempts on target,” Scholes told BT Sport following their 3-0 win.

“I think the big problem with this team is the attacking players.

“I think it’s obvious for everyone to see that they lack creativity and I think in the forward areas it’s a real struggle.

“We always want players in the team to take risks but it just looks like the quality isn’t there.

“We’ve spoken about this all season now, probably the last couple of years, in forward areas.

“I think in other areas you’re okay, if Pogba comes back into the midfield with [Scott] McTominay it looks good.

“I think possibly at centre-half they could need a partner for Maguire, although [Axel] Tuanzebe looks a good option. I’m not sure about Lindelof.

“I think everywhere else it’s looking okay but it’s just them forward areas, them creative areas, where it’s a real struggle.”
