ESPN Pundit Steve Nicol has praised Manchester United’s pursuit for Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes.

United are currently busy negotiating a deal for Fernandes, according to reports. The Sporting captain finished last season on a high, scoring 32 goals and registering 18 assists in all competitions.

Sporting are said to be holding him out for £70m. The 24-year-old also sparked speculation regarding a move to United after he cried following a friendly game. His wife also posted a message on Instagram that seemed to confirm his departure.

“This has to be a hit. He’s a great player,” Nicol said of Fernandes heading to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United don’t have many great players, they need great players.”

“They need to start doing something. We’ve got a couple of weeks until the start of the season and pretty much they’ve done nothing.”

“It looks like the only thing that’s going to happen to them is they’re going to lose players not sign players.”

“Talking the way we are does a disservice to this guy because I think this guy is a great player.”

“He was linked with Liverpool last season and I was hoping that they would sign him. Obviously, it didn’t come to fruition.

“I think he’s exactly what Manchester United need right now. I think this is a hit and it better be a hit for Man United fans’ sake.”

Manchester United have already signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a combined fee of £68m. The Red Devils are also pursuing deals for Harry Maguire and Paulo Dybala.

Inter Milan’s new signing Diego Godin has lifted the lid on why he rejected a move to Manchester United. The 33-year-old defender ended a nine-year stint with Atletico Madrid to join the Nerazzurri on a free transfer.

Godin was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United when Jose Mourinho was in charge at the club. The Red Devils had marked him as one of the transfer targets alongside Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire.

Godin revealed that Inter were the first club to show a serious interest in signing him.

“Yes, a year ago there was Juventus, Manchester United, in the past also Man City,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“But at that moment I had a contract in force with Atletico, I didn’t think of leaving. This time [move to Inter] it was different, I was near the end of my contract.

“But I can say that no club convinced me how Inter managed to. They came alive first and decidedly with more conviction than other clubs.

“They showed me the project: it’s ambitious, like me. And I liked the idea of being part of it and being able to help Inter realise it.”

Manchester United are currently chasing Harry Maguire, one of their defensive targets since last summer. The Red Devils are said to be in the ‘last stages’ of the deal that would make the Englishman the most expensive defender of all time.

Meanwhile, Godin is preparing to face Inter Milan in their next pre-season friendly game.

According to Italian journalist, Gianluca di Marzio, Manchester United are in the ‘closing stages’ of the deal for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. He tweeted the update much to the delight of a number of Manchester United fans.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed on an £80m deal for the 26-year-old, who is Solskjaer’s number one defensive target this summer. The blockbuster deal would also see the Englishman eclipsing Virgil van Dijk’s world-record £75m move to Liverpool, making him the most expensive defender of all time.

Maguire will become the third signing for United this summer, following the acquisitions of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a combined fee of £68m.

Manchester City were also interested in the Englishman’s services and viewed him as a potential successor for Vincent Kompany. However, Maguire expressed his desire in moving to Old Trafford after City dropped their interest and United showed it signing him.

Maguire recently missed a training session due to sickness, giving rise to speculation about a move to Manchester United. Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers also gave the Red Devils a boost after stating that there is no deadline for them to sign the defender.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio,  Manchester United and Juventus are currently locked in talks over a possible swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala. The reports say that the Bianconeri are ready to cash in on the Argentinian, whom they value at €100m.

On the other side, Romelu Lukaku is all but set to leave Manchester United. The Belgian has been courted by Inter Milan all summer, but Juve have moved ahead of their rivals for his signature.

Juventus are ready to offer Dybala in exchange for Lukaku, who is valued at €84m by the English giants. However, the only hurdle that remains is convincing Dybala to agree with the move.

The Argentinian is eager on staying put and will hold discussions with Maurizio Sarri regarding how central he will be to the team next season. The striker will take a transfer into consideration if he believes his playing opportunities will be limited.

Manchester United are ready to face Norweigan side Kristiansund in the next fixture of the preseason. Juventus are preparing to take on Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on 10th August.

Former Manchester United player Bastian Schweinsteiger has advised manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sell Paul Pogba this summer. The Frenchman has already expressed his desire to leave and the former German international believes he shouldn’t be forced to stay put.

“If a player wants to leave the club, you shouldn’t stop him,” the 34-year-old told BBC Sport.

“You need players who are 100% into the club and care about the club, that’s the only way you can survive at the top level and have success.”

“Paul is a great player, he is just looking for a team where he can play the same style that he does with the France national team, so if you give him that kind of team around him, he would be happy at United.”

Schweinsteiger joined United in 2015 before making a move to MLS side Chicago Fire two years later. The veteran midfielder teamed up with Pogba in 2016, when United bought the latter for £90m from Juventus.

Since Schweinsteiger’s departure, the Red Devils have struggled to establish themselves. They are busy finding lost glories amidst eising challenges from Liverpool and Manchester City.

Schweinsteiger also reserved praise for Solskjaer as he said,

“When you become the manager of a big club for the first time, it can’t always be up, it also goes down. It’s normal.”

“I think he really understands how the team has to play football and as far as I can see and I have talked to some players, they are really happy with him.”

“They have fantastic players, you just need to use them.”

Lazio are preparing for life without Milinkovic- Savic, in a news that would definitely be a boost for Manchester United.

“We’ll see the conditions that line up,” Lotito was quoted by Football Italia.

“Milinkovic has a good rapport with the club, just as the club has with him.”

Lotito continued: “If some offers were to be presented, we’d evaluate them with a spirit of collaboration that looks after the interests of the club and the player.”

“We’ll make the decisions that are best for everyone.”

“The investments we made last summer should’ve allowed us to qualify for the Champions League, but we hope to have learned from the experience,” he concluded.

Previously, Lazio coach and former AC Milan striker and legend Inzaghi had also admitted that Savic could be on his way out to Manchester United.

“I would like it if he stayed here at Lazio, but it is right that the club could consider an important proposal,” Inzaghi said in a news conference on Saturday.

“He has had an amazing pre-season and I’m happy to have him with me. We hope that he will remain in the capital, but the market is open and we are open to any situation.

“I am happy to have Milinkovic-Savic. If he were to leave Lazio, we will have to look for a physical player that can also guarantee us technique.

“In my heart, I hope he can stay with us, but the club is right to consider an important offer for the player.”

According to reports from Italy, Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Matija Kezman, the midfielder’s agent, is currently rumoured to be in London to hold talks over further steps.

The Red Devils view the Serbian as the perfect man to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford. The French midfielder has been linked with a move out of the club, with Real Madrid keen on his signature.

United have slapped a £150m price tag on Pogba and will move for Savic only if the Frenchman leaves the club.

Both Manchester United and Lazio are yet to agree on a fee for Savic, with his parent club asking for £80m. Kezman will remain in London to see how the Pogba situation develops.

It is said that the 24-year-old will earn just above £100k per week if he comes to Old Trafford. The Lazio star has become a mainstay at the club since joining from Genk in 2015.

Manchester United are currently set to face Kristiansund in their next pre-season game in Norway.

Former Manchester United left-back and France international Patrice Evra has announced his retirement from the game. The 38-year-old will close the shutter on a 20-year-old career during which he also played for Monaco, Juventus and Marseille.

“My playing career is officially over. I started training for the UEFA B Coaching License in 2013, now I want to finish it and then go on to get the UEFA A license.

In a statement announcing his decision, he said,

“In a year and a half, if everything goes well, I’ll be ready to lead a team.

“Sir Alex Ferguson had predicted at the time that two of his players would become coaches of a high level: Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra.”

Evra garnered a reputation as one of the world’s best left-backs during his time at Old Trafford. He made 273 appearances and scored 3 goals, after signing for them in a £5.5m deal in 2006.

Moving on, he joined Juventus in 2014 and won 3 Serie A titles and a Champions League runners’ up medal in his three-year stint with the club.

At Manchester United, he won 5 Premier League titles, 4 Community Shields, 3 League Cups and a Champions League title.

According to latest reports, the rumour mill has suggested that Manchester United’s chase for Harry Maguire is still on. However, the Red Devils are tipped to make a move for the Leicester City defender only if one condition gets fulfilled.

United will be ready to match Leicester City’s price tag for Maguire if they manage to offload Romelu Lukaku this summer. The Belgian is looking for a way out of the club after having two below-par seasons at Old Trafford.

Inter Milan and Juventus are both keen on the 26-year-old’s signature. The latest reports about Lukaku have also suggested that Inter are ready to match Man United’s £75m asking price for the striker.

The Maguire chase has stretched to the final two weeks of the transfer window after United failed with two attempts to land the player. The Red Devils have already agreed to pay £70m for the 26-year-old but Leicester have quoted a price of £90m for their prized asset. The transfer fee is apparently proving to be a major stumbling block in the completion of the deal.

Recently, a few reports suggested that United had raised their bid to £80m but the Foxes didn’t budge. Ed Woodward and co are also targetting deals for Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic before the window closes.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba’s brother Matias Pogba has recently provided his views on the Frenchman’s precarious future at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old midfielder left United in 2012 on a free transfer to join Juventus. Following a successful four-year spell with the Bianconeri, Pogba returned to United in a world-record £90m deal in 2016.

However, considering United’s ongoing struggles with form and failure to win trophies, the Frenchman is keen to quit the club this summer. The Red Devils have slapped a £150m price tag on the midfielder.

Real Madrid are keen on acquiring the World Cup winner’s services but Zidane and Perez are at loggerheads over the move. Meanwhile, Matias Pogba has stated that hid brother would be a big help to Los Blancos if he joins them

“I feel my brother could help any team,” he told AS.

“If he plays for Madrid, he will help Madrid.
I always want what’s the best for my brother. If he feels Real Madrid is the best club for him, he will come.”

“I’m in Spain because I want to be and it has nothing to do with the possibility of my younger brother securing a move. We can’t do anything about the rumours.”
