Raphael Varane, one of only two Manchester United players still competing in this winter’s World Cup, has the chance to help his country, France, achieve history this week

After winning the prestigious trophy with ease in Russia four years ago, France is preparing for their semi-final matchup with Morocco with the goal of completing a hat trick of World Cup victories.

The current world champions, France, now have their sights set on the trophy but will first need to defeat Morocco, who stunned everyone by defeating Belgium, Portugal, and Spain. England proved to be a tough opponent for France.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final, Varane, 29, discussed France’s performance in the tournament thus far and advised his teammates not to underrate Morocco, arguing that their record speaks for itself. Varane has been a crucial player for France for the past ten years.

Before Varane can return to Manchester for the second part of the season, France will play in two more games, and Erik ten Hag will be praying that his star defender survives the ordeal unscathed.

Varane might, however, have to go up against the final United player. The other semifinal features Lisandro Martinez’s Argentina, and the most likely final is between France and Argentina.
