Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho said that his celebrations of  Marouane Fellaini’s goal against Young Boys was out of relief.

The Red Devils endured a very tedious Champions League clash against Young Boys yesterday. The match seemed heading towards a draw before Marouane Fellaini shot between the legs of defender Loris Benito and past goalkeeper David von Ballmoos.

The goal was Fellaini’s first Champions League goal in more than a year. Jose Mourinho celebrated by hurling a water carrier to the ground.

Following the match, when asked about his celebrations, Mourinho replied, “Relief, frustration before that, and relief for the goal. We didn’t play for 0-0, we didn’t play to be in trouble until the last minute. So frustration. I was not unhappy with the players, not at all, I was frustrated with the fact that we could not score.

My players were very tired in the end and that is what I love, I want my players to be tired. They gave everything and did that with moments of very good football, moments of quality, moments of hypothetically beautiful goals, but also with moments of pressure, moments of lack of confidence.

That frustrated us but in the end we scored.”

The win against Young Boys sealed Manchester United’s place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Having secured qualification to the next phase of the Champions League, Manchester United will be in a good state of mind on Saturday when they play a Premier League clash against Southampton.
