Erik ten Hag has challenged Alejandro Garnacho to improve this season.

The young Man United winger scored his first goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

He put United ahead with an exquisite strike from Diogo Dalot’s cross in the first half of the game.

He started United’s opening two games of the season but had to settle for substitute appearances in the last three games.

The 19-year-old has struggled to find the back of the net and Ten Hag insists Garnaco needs to learn and improve further this season.

“You have seen at the start of the season we played him and then his contribution was not good enough,” United boss Ten Hag said.

“He has to learn when he does his job in defending he will always have his moment and he will always be decisive because he has great qualities.

“As well, it’s not only off the ball. But I want to see like today, he is entering the box in the right spot to finish. He has to show it every day.”
