Manchester United dealt blow in pursuit of Napoli Star

The right-back could sign a new contract extension soon

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad this summer after an underwhelming campaign this season, not winning a single silverware. Their priority is to add defensive reinforcements as the club looking to sell few players.

Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League this season, Jose Mourinho is not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia.

Both Matteo Dramian and Luke Shaw are expected to leave the club at the end of the season, after failing to establish themselves under the Portuguese. He wants to sign two new full-backs in order to strengthen the squad for next season.

Mourinho is eyeing a move for Napoli star Elseid Hysaj. Since 2015, he has been an ever-present in their line-up since and has made 134 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The Albanian defender has been a major protagonist in their amazing campaign this season, that has made him one of the most coveted jewels in Naples. He has made 41 appearances for the club this season in all competitions.

The 24 year old has £44 million release clause in his current contract and is valid until 2021. The Red Devils are keen to pay his release clause as they want him to compete with Valencia but the Serie A giants are trying to sign him a new contract extension.

But the Premier League giants could suffer a blow in there pursuit of the versatile full-back as Hysaj’s representative claimed that he has no intention to leave the club this summer and could sign a new contract extension soon.

“Hysaj is and will remain a Napoli player regardless of Sarri’s future,” his agent Mario Giuffredi told Radio CRC as quoted by Goal

“We started talks with the club about a contract extension, but they were put on hold because the Scudetto was the priority.

“If someone wants to send him away I don’t know, but I don’t think that will happen.”
