Manchester United receives boost as European giants are no longer interested in their star

The player was heavily linked with a move away this summer

Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United in the summer of 2016, on a five-year contract for a then-record for highest football transfer fee at £89.3 million. He left the club to join Juventus in 2012 for more game time, where he established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

The France International started off the last season off positively but was benched following a few poor performances. His form was often questioned last season and was even criticized by Jose Mourinho himself.

Though the 25 year old responded with brilliant performances towards the end of the season and won the United’s Player of the month for April. He ended the season with 6 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

However, there has been speculations that the midfielder’s relation with Jose Mourinho is not good and they weren’t even in speaking terms. As a result he has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, with the European transfer window still open.

Amid transfer links, he returned to training after post World Cup holiday and has featured in both the club’s opening Premier League matches. He was given the armband in both the matches, converting penalty in both the games but suffered a defeat against Brighton last weekend.

Even Mourinho insisted earlier that he has no problem with the player and has been happy with his performance so far. Despite that he he is still linked with with a move to Spain and even his agents wants him to move.

However, the Red Devils have received a huge boost which could guarantee the Frenchman to stay at the club this summer.

Kevin Kampl is the man seen by Barcelona as the one to fill their midfield void, according to Don Balon.

Barca have chased Pogba all summer but will find it tough to sign him in the next week, while it looks complicated to sign either Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong or PSG’s Adrien Rabiot.
