Bruno Fernandes’s debut with United left Gary Neville impressed

Football pundit Gary Neville is quite impressed with how Bruno Fernandes played out in his first Manchester United match.

Fernandes played throughout the entire home game in the match against Wolves on Saturday – but ultimately United drew 0-0 with Wolves.

“It’s early days but I like what he did,” former United defender Neville said of Fernandes on Sky Sports. “I thought he did okay, it was a difficult game for him.

“We’ve heard a lot about his assists and his goals and how he can affect games at the front of the pitch, but when he was moved into more of a holding midfield role alongside Fred in the second half I actually thought he did quite well.

“He showed a lot of experience and discipline to not expose himself too much.

“In the first half he was in a number 10 role and he reminded me a bit of what Juan Sebastien Veron used to do when he first came to Manchester United.

“He charged around everywhere and moved everywhere. He was busy and was looking for spaces but didn’t really play in a position.

“I preferred him in the second half when he was a little more controlled and I thought it was a decent debut from him.

“Fred has emerged in recent weeks and those two could control games – there is some promise there.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is highly under-rated – as a PR manager!

He has once again manged to turn a disappointing result into a brave warrior like display from his expensively assembled squad against real underdogs Wolves.

Solskjaer told Sky Sports after the 0-0 draw: “It was a game as you expected really. We dominated the game, had loads of possession, they gave us problems on counter attacks and set plays.

“We’ve played so many games in the past few months the players are down to the barebones, Energy levels are down and the need a break.

“We got Bruno deeper on the ball for us. I felt we controlled the first half as well.

“In the second half we threatened a little bit more. I feel the ground staff must have moved the goal slightly to the right!

“Bruno is a top player. It’s the first game. First half everyone was getting the ball into feet and Bruno is one of those who, when he gets into feet, he wants players moving in front of him and we didn’t.

“He’ll be a top addition.”

What is most ironical is that Ole was complaining about being tired against a team who have played the second most number of games by any English team in the top division.

Solksjaer closed the door on new arrivals.

But reports claim that a player is keen on a move.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Bournemouth striker Joshua King wants to join Manchester United and is ready to head to Carrington to complete his move before the January transfer window deadline.

“Josh King wants the proposed transfer from Bournemouth to Manchester United to happen and is ready to head north if an agreement can be reached between the clubs,” Ornstein tweeted on Friday. The Cherries have already started their search for potential replacements for the 28-year-old, as per the journalist.

The Norway international, who played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for United U23s between 2009 and 2011, is believed to be Ole’s priority option to replace Marcus Rashford who is set to miss up to three months with a back injury.

The Telegraph earlier reported that The Red Devils’ opening bid for King was rejected . Now United are considering a second attempt to land him before the transfer window deadline. Neville warns Woodward after United fans attack Ed

Neville warns Woodward after United fans attack Ed

Ed Woodward’s house came under attack from a violent group of Manchester United fans.

Although Gary Neville has condemned the attack, he has warned the United chief also.

“People’s families shouldn’t be attacked through sport or through football. Ed Woodward doesn’t deserve that and neither do his family,” Neville told Sky Sports ahead of Wednesday’s Manchester Derby.

“There are two separate issues here. The fans are absolutely disgusted with how the football side of the club has been run over the last two or three years. There still isn’t a technical director or football director. How it’s taken so long I don’t know. The club should be moving that forwards. They still don’t look slick in the transfer market. The team are obviously struggling.

“And essentially the fans are just not happy. It’s simmering and it will boil soon. The reality of it is the first issue is something that can’t be condoned but the second issue is something that’s going to get worse.

“The fans are starting to bring it into the stadium. The fans are taking it to social media. They’re taking it above the line and going to people’s houses which isn’t acceptable and should never happen.

“However there’s a massive fanbase of Manchester United fans who are frustrated and are not going to accept what is happening at the club. And the reality is they are not seeing any movement, they’re not seeing any action.

“The same people who are running the club from a football point of view are still running the football club.

“I said a few years ago Manchester United need the best in class football operators at that football club and they haven’t got them and they’re getting played all over Europe by better operators, by smarter people and that is just unacceptable.

“It’s not something that Manchester United fans should accept. But they’re displaying their displeasure in a way which is over the top and should never happen.”

The defender leaves United after six years.

He has returned in his home country.

Marcos Rojo has left Manchester United and returned to his homeland, Estudiantes have been confirmed. News of the Argentina international’s move to Estudiantes on a short-term loan deal was made official today.

Estudiantes announced that agreement had been reached with United on Twitter, saying: “You always return to the places where you were happy. Because of the sense of belonging, it’s stronger. Your dream and that of the Pincha family come true. We meet again. Welcome and thanks for coming back, Marcos. We welcome you with the heart.”

The 29-year-old defender, who started out his career with Estudiantes, joined Man United from Sporting in a €20 million in 2014 during Louis van Gaal’s spell as Red Devils boss. However, he has found himself frozen out of the first team in recent times, and came close to joining Everton in the summer.

Having slipped down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has seen just nine appearances in the 2019-20 campaign. The most recent of those came back in November, appearing as a last-minute substitute in a 3-1 win over Brighton, while he has not started a Premier League game since the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in October.

Guardiola in awe of Man United's players - 5 of them!

Pep Guardiola obviously wasn’t happy with his Manchester City players after losing out to Man United by 1-0, but he sure was pleased with five of Manchester United’s players.

He singled them out – Nemanja Matic, Fred, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.

‘I like a lot the way they played,’ said Guardiola. ‘At Old Trafford we played really well, maybe I didn’t expect us to play the way we played, but I said when we lost here I said they don’t need much.

‘The quality of the players up front is incredible. I had the feeling, I said before when we lost at home against them, they are trying to do what the manager Ole wants, and I think it works. ‘Maybe they are not consistent in all the games, they struggle at home a little bit with the teams who defend deep.

‘But, I like the way they play, the qualities they have. ‘Lindelof I saw him in Benfica, Luke Shaw is an incredible type of player, Maguire, one of the best central defenders in the world.

‘The people up front they are so fast. Matic and Fred, they are incredible players, Matic is an outstanding player. ‘In time, they will do it and be back to what United was for many years.’

Ole Solskjaer Lauded His Players' Performance In Manchester Derby

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fuming over referee, Kevin Friend’s decision to send off Nemanja matic in Manchester derby.

United pulled on goal back through the Serbian the second leg of the Carabao Cup sem-final last night.

In chase of a second goal, Matic was sent off after a double yellow booking. After all, Manchester City went through to the cup final with a score of 3-2 on aggregate

Of course, it’s hard to come here [to the Etihad Stadium] and score a goal with 11 [men] never mind 10 [men], and it was never a sending off,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“It was an absolute joke, for me. It was ironic really that he gets a yellow on his first foul, almost gets a yellow on his second foul – which wasn’t even a foul – and then the last one wasn’t a yellow.

“How many times did they foul us? How many times was Daniel James fouled? How many times in the first half did they foul Jesse [Lingard]?

“That’s the first question asked, and it shouldn’t be like this because I’m so proud of these players. They’ve beaten City now twice in six weeks, at their place. We’ve come so far with these boys, they’ve given absolutely everything.”

The saga is finally over.

The Portugese will officially join United.

Update:

Finally, after nearly a month of speculation, scrutiny, and ups & downs, Manchester United have completed the signing of Sporting captain Bruno Fernandes.

“Manchester United is delighted to confirm the signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Clube de Portugal. Bruno signs on a five-and-a-half year contract, with an option to extend for a further year”, said an official statement.

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

A statement on the official website read:“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes. The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

Earlier Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio  hadrevealed that both clubs agreed on a sum of €55 million up front plus €25 million in bonuses. Negotiations threatened to breakdown on Tuesday with Barcelona reportedly interested, but that sparked United into raising their offer which was then deemed acceptable by Sporting.

In addition, according to Daily Mail, Fernandes has flown to England to take a medical after agreeing a fee with the Red Devils. The midfielder looked to be on his way to England imminently, with his friend Carolina Deslandes posting a photo of the pair in a lift with an aeroplane emoji onto her Instagram story on Tuesday night.

Fernandes will be a boost to the Manchester United midfield that lost Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera over the summer and have suffered injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, both of whom have grown into vastly important players. The Portuguese international has made 28 appearances for Sporting CP this season across all competitions, scoring 15 goals including in league play.

Manchester United Issues Statement Against Local Attack On Ed Woodward's House

Manchester United are going to ban any fans found guilty of attacking Ed Woodward at his own residence last night.

Around 20 to 30 supporters reportedly threw flares at the United chairman’s house, right ahead of the Carabao Cup second leg semi-final tie against Manchester City.

The Red Devils released an official statement regarding the incident. It read, “Manchester United Football Club have tonight been made aware of the incident outside the home of one of our employees.

“We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with Greater Manchester Police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack.

“Anybody found guilty of a criminal offence, or found to be trespassing on this property, will be banned for life by the club.

“Fans expressing opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life and property is another. There is simply no excuse for this.”

Woodward was not present during the incident but his name was on the lips of every United fan during their 6-0 triumph over Tranmere Rovers. Both him and the Red Devils owners, the Glazers family are not popular figures owing to the situation the club is currently stuck in.

United have won just three of their last eight games and are increasingly looking unlikely to finish in the top four this season.
