Neville in support of VAR!

VAR has caused huge controversy in England this season!

However, Gary Neville, the former Manchester United captain is in support of it. Not completely though!

“This idea that VAR is ruining football? It’s not. What’s happening is that VAR is experiencing some turbulence. When I went to Stockley Park earlier in the year, I had some concerns that we thought we could ‘do it better’ than countries and tournaments that have been doing it for years.

“It’s been experimented, used and tested, and we thought we could do it better by not allowing the referee to go over to the monitor, because he’s ’emotional’. We want emotion, we want the referee in the stadium to make the final decision.

“[They] want the Stockley Park officials removed from what would be the ‘smell of the fixture’, and I understand that, and for offsides that is fine, but not for decisions that relate to a red card, or big penalty decisions, it should be made by the on-field referee.

“I’ve watched Champions League games this season where the manager has walked over to the pitchside screen, the fans know what’s going on and they’re not left in the dark.

“For me, if the referee is going over to check the decision, fans will feel like they’re being brought on the journey and process. Hearing what referee and Stockley Park officials are saying in the stadium is also bringing the fan into the experience. At the moment it is too detached.

“I can see why they did it, but I had a problem with it when I first visited Stockley Park back in the summer, and I felt they would have to change towards the European model of referees going over to the monitor. It’s far better.”

Diogo Dalot is in support of Bruno Fernandes for his debut Wolves game.

“The players knew Bruno was a very good player of course,” Dalot said, as per Sky Sports.

“It’s different seeing him abroad and then seeing him in training every day. He’s going to bring us a lot.

“I knew him and I think he’s going to be a very good player for us and he’s going to help us build this team.”

“For me, it was not a surprise and I think that he is going to show us a lot more that he did today but it was a fantastic debut for him.”

“I had Portuguese coaches and staff when I came,” the right-back said, having been brought in by Jose Mourinho in 2018.

“They helped me a lot and when he came I try to do the same because he had a Portuguese guy, a player that he knew.

“I’m just trying to help him settle in with the whole team.”

Solskjaer is also pleased with Bruno.

‘You can see Bruno is a top player. Of course it’s the first game.

‘First half everyone was more or less getting the ball into feet and Bruno is one of those who, when he gets the ball into feet, he wants players running, wants players moving in front of him and we didn’t move enough in front of him.

‘So we felt we moved him further back to get him on the ball more. He’ll be a top, top addition.’

Cantona = Ighalo? Former United star thinks so!

Mark Bosnich has claimed Odion Ighalo could have the same impact as Eric Cantona.

Yes, we are not joking.

“This was an emergency signing,” the former United goalkeeper said on Sky Sports News.

“I can understand a lot of people taking about a scatter gun approach, well it had to be with Marcus Rashford being out.

“The top four is still possible for Manchester United, they had to go and get somebody.

“The boy that’s come in (Ighalo) has got nothing to lose, nobody expects anything unbelievable from him but they definitely needed somebody in that position.

“You never know. A long, long time ago Manchester United signed a certain Frenchman (Eric Cantona) who no one really expected much from and he ended up propelling them to one of their most successful seasons of all time.

“I think they can, there’s no doubt about that,” he added when asked if United can finish top four.

“Six points at this stage of the season for me is still nothing.

“The big question of them not scoring goals is the way that they’re playing.

“People would have a lot more confidence if they had been watching performances and saying okay this team is actually going somewhere.

“I do believe that they are. Whether or not they’ll be able creep into that top four at the end of the season is a different question entirely.

“There’s a still a chance, regardless of what anyone says they’re still in the mix.”

Can Fernandes be a liability for United? Giggs thinks so!

Can Fernandes be a liability for United? Giggs thinks so!

Ryan Giggs seems to think that Bruno Fernandes, although possessing quality at times, could be a liability on the defensive front.

Placing Fernandes might take a bit of trial and error, according to Giggs. We do agree that every new signing needs some tweaking before deciding on the final position.

There was glimpses of the quality he does possess,’ the ex-United winger told Premier League Productions. ‘I think it might need a bit of working out what his best position is.

‘With his back to goal, I don’t think that’s his position. When he’s a little bit deeper, defensively, he may be a bit of a liability. He’s in between the two really.

‘That’s where you want to see him, coming on to the ball [heading into the final third]. But also you see when he is that little bit deeper he can spray the passes, he has got the vision to then play those passes. But then you need the runs.’

Giggs added: ‘When I went back and played in midfield, if I got the ball and no-one was running in behind, I’d tell them because first five minutes, I want to turn, face the play and move the defence.

‘What that does, it gives space to the wide-men who want to come in, the No.10, the defence then are already on their way as soon as he gets the ball. ‘I think he’ll want to find his best position first of all.

‘He tired towards the end but you can see the quality that he has got.’

Ole urged to replace Martial with Greenwood in starting XI

Ole urged to replace Martial with Greenwood in starting XI

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged by Ian Wright to consider trying out Mason Greenwood in the starting XI rather than Anthony Martial.

Manchester United has not seen any wins in the last three match – the one with Liverpool, Burnley and finally a goalless draw with Wolves. Martial had missed several chances to try scoring a goal and that can be brought down due to his poor form.

‘I’d play him,’ Wright told Match of the Day. ‘Absolutely.

‘When you look at how Martial has played in that game, I would play him now, absolutely.’ Alan Shearer was also critical of Martial and called for him to do more.

‘There’s your centre-forward Martial [outside the box], no-one in the middle at all,’ said Shearer.

‘The ball gets worked down that left-hand side, not enough options in there – and that’s why, because [Martial] is hanging out there.

Got to do better, got to hold the play up better, bring people into the game. Too easily shoved off the ball.

‘Where are Wan-Bissaka’s options? They’re miles away. He’s got no options. They’ve got to come over. Someone’s got to try and help him.

‘Eventually he takes a touch, and another touch, and another one, too many because there’s nothing on and he eventually gives the ball away.

‘He’s [Martial] got to offer more than today’s game.’

New striker Ighalo talks about dream United move

New striker Ighalo talks about dream United move

New Red Devils striker Odion Ighalo has said that it is a dream move for him to join Manchester United.

He got signed with Manchester United at the last minute from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua. His transfer came as shock as Manchester United claimed him on the last day of the winter transfer month. However, he definitely doesn’t mind it because for it’s a “dream come true.”

Odion Ighalo is signed with United for the rest of the season.

It’s a dream come true because since I was a kid I followed and dreamt of Manchester United. But it is a reality now. I cannot say much more now until I get started. It’s been crazy. Obviously, I am happy to be in Manchester first of all,” said Ighalo.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I am grateful to God, and to my agent, and the coach who has given me this opportunity to be here. I am happy to be here and to work out with the team and finish very well this season.

“The plan is to just chill today because I travelled a very long way from Shanghai to Manchester. Today is to just rest and tomorrow we start to work.”

Gary Neville Slams Manchester United Over Their Player Recruitment

Gary Neville Slams Manchester United Over Their Player Recruitment

Gary Neville criticised Manchester United’s recruitment strategies after 0-0 draw against Wolves.

“They just needed a body in that area,” Neville told Sky Sports. “Rashford’s going to be out for another couple of months.

“I can’t let the club off the hook though, unfortunately. Romelu Lukaku told us a couple of weeks ago that he had said he was going to leave last February or March,” Neville told Sky Sports before the 0-0 draw with Wolves.

“That’s nine months to be able to manoeuvre and get into a position to sign a striker for the club for the long-term. And yet they have ended up desperately doing one on Deadline Day. The boy may do very well. He might come in and settle in, he might score goals and do a job for the club.

“But the fact that the club were in that position, knowing that Sanchez and Lukaku were leaving for many, many months, tells us that Manchester United, at this moment in time, are struggling to navigate through the transfer market smartly.”

“You can go back to Falcao, Di Maria, other players, Depay was young at the time, but players they’ve signed in forward areas on the pitch haven’t been good enough,” he continued.

“You look at what Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham have done, and compare it to what Manchester United have done. If the recruitment is wrong you ultimately end up paying for it.

“The gameplan today was fine from United. If you were playing with Messi, Suarez and Neymar up front you’d probably play the same way against Wolves. You’d control the game and wait for that moment and one of your front three would go and deliver for you. United don’t have that front three at the moment who can go and provide that moment of magic.

“They’ve signed Ighalo – maybe he can give a bit more presence in terms of putting crosses into the box. The fact is, United were chasing a goal at 0-0 and they’ve had to bring on Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot, that tells you exactly where Manchester United are at.

“The big problem with recruitment is I’m not quite sure who is in charge over the last seven or eight years. Who is behind the scenes spotting the players, making sure they are ahead of the game?”

Bruno Fernandes’s debut with United left Gary Neville impressed

Bruno Fernandes's debut with United left Gary Neville impressed

Football pundit Gary Neville is quite impressed with how Bruno Fernandes played out in his first Manchester United match.

Fernandes played throughout the entire home game in the match against Wolves on Saturday – but ultimately United drew 0-0 with Wolves.

“It’s early days but I like what he did,” former United defender Neville said of Fernandes on Sky Sports. “I thought he did okay, it was a difficult game for him.

“We’ve heard a lot about his assists and his goals and how he can affect games at the front of the pitch, but when he was moved into more of a holding midfield role alongside Fred in the second half I actually thought he did quite well.

“He showed a lot of experience and discipline to not expose himself too much.

“In the first half he was in a number 10 role and he reminded me a bit of what Juan Sebastien Veron used to do when he first came to Manchester United.

“He charged around everywhere and moved everywhere. He was busy and was looking for spaces but didn’t really play in a position.

“I preferred him in the second half when he was a little more controlled and I thought it was a decent debut from him.

“Fred has emerged in recent weeks and those two could control games – there is some promise there.”

Solskjaer’s latest reaction to United’s draw will have you in splits

Solskjaer's latest reaction to United's draw will have you in splits

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is highly under-rated – as a PR manager!

He has once again manged to turn a disappointing result into a brave warrior like display from his expensively assembled squad against real underdogs Wolves.

Solskjaer told Sky Sports after the 0-0 draw: “It was a game as you expected really. We dominated the game, had loads of possession, they gave us problems on counter attacks and set plays.

“We’ve played so many games in the past few months the players are down to the barebones, Energy levels are down and the need a break.

“We got Bruno deeper on the ball for us. I felt we controlled the first half as well.

“In the second half we threatened a little bit more. I feel the ground staff must have moved the goal slightly to the right!

“Bruno is a top player. It’s the first game. First half everyone was getting the ball into feet and Bruno is one of those who, when he gets into feet, he wants players moving in front of him and we didn’t.

“He’ll be a top addition.”

What is most ironical is that Ole was complaining about being tired against a team who have played the second most number of games by any English team in the top division.
