OleĀ  Gunnar Solskjaer could make some tactical changes on Saturday when Manchester United take on Wolves in a FA Cup quarter final at Molineux.

The Norwegian manager has taken the decision as a number of players are set to be absent in this match and the manager may have to tweak his setup in a bid to cope up with the difficulties of this game.

Romelu Lukaku has a sore foot and will undergo a late fitness test while Ashley Young is suspended after receiving consecutive suspensions in the last two FA Cup matches. Diogo Dalot is expected to fill in his position.

Anthony Martial could be given a start alongside Marcus Rashford who has been in red hot form for the Red Devils.

Solskjaer said, “Ashleyā€™s been fantastic.

“But weā€™ve got Diogo, Phil Jones can play there [at right-back], so weā€™ve got players who could play there. We might even swap to a different system, you never know.”

“Any game you lose is a big anti-climax

“Itā€™s the worst feeling you can have. And thatā€™s maybe the only good thing about that Arsenal defeat, to feel how much it hurt.

“Because [the first leg defeat to] PSG, we still had a chance to correct it and the last game I lost [before that] was against Ranheim on 26th August, so it was a long time ago.

“To win trophies youā€™ve got to win at least one or two really tough games. Theyā€™re like defining moments. We beat Liverpool, we beat Chelsea, we beat Arsenal back then [in 1999], and you think, ‘We deserve a little bit of luck in the draw next timeā€™.

“But Wolves away, what a difficult game that can be. So comparisons? Well weā€™re not challenging to win the league this year but we are challenging for the other two trophies.”

Michael Carrick has said that Ole’s coaching style is similar to that of Sir Alex Ferguson.

“[They have the] same principles. Ole’s team-talks are big on hard work [as Ferguson’s were].”

“He delivers it his way. That’s the club’s way, the DNA of Manchester United: an exciting, positive, winning performance, where you take risks, you go for it.”

“Work ethic, humility – the United way is not ‘we’re better than you’. We just have to work harder. The best teams United had over the years always had an unbelievable work ethic.”

“You can’t put a price on that feeling. I can try to play it down all I want, you try to forget about it, move on, but it was one of those nights that in a few months’ time, a few years, we’ll look back and go ‘wow, that was special’,” said Carrick.

“The buzz of winning was incredible. The dressing room was bouncing. The lads were all singing ‘Ole’s at the wheel’. Sir Alex and Eric [Cantona] were in there, so the lads started singing Cantona songs.

“Everyone, young kids to grandmas, come up to me in the street and say ‘this is great’. Especially after Paris. Paris was massive.”

Solskjaer Reacts To Champions League Draw Against Barcelona

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that his side were set to face the reigning La Liga champions Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final draw. The Red Devils have been drawn against the Blaugrana in which is expected to be one of the fiercest contests in the Champions League this season.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Solskjaer said, “Yes, it had to be [Barcelona]!”

He added, “Iā€™ve had so many texts from friends saying this year is going to be the year that weā€™ll get through because of my number, 20, and it being 20 years ago. Weā€™re off to the Nou Camp again!”

Referring to the treble winning season in 1999 when the side travelled to Barcelona, Solskjaer also said, “It was the biggest night Iā€™ve had in football. Of course, for all of us in that team, it was an unbelievable night. Itā€™s a great stadiumā€¦ and, of course, we met them in the group stages as well that year ā€“ 3-3 each both home and away. Itā€™ll be a good game. We want these games against the biggest clubs and the biggest teams. We had the finals against them in 2009 and 2011 and the semi-final in 2008 when Scholesy [Paul Scholes] scored, and itā€™s those games that our supporters and this club crave. We are looking forward to this one.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Delivers Fitness Update Ahead Of Wolves Clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Delivers Fitness Update Ahead Of Wolves Clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered a positive fitness update ahead of the FA Cup quarter final clash with Wolves on Saturday.

United would be aiming for a second consecutive final appearance after their defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final last season. United have maintained their strong run, particularly in this coveted competition as they got the better of Chelsea and Arsenal respectively to reach the quarters.

The Red Devils are adamant to get back to winning ways following their disappointing defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League. Wolves have been pretty consistent since getting promoted to the top tier and it would be a daunting task for the Red Devils to shrug off their challenge.

Solskjaer said, ā€œWeā€™re still getting players [back].

ā€œTheyā€™ve been training better this week so Jesse [Lingard] and Ander [Herrera] have been training. Rom[elu Lukaku] has a sore foot so he will be assessed this morning [Friday] so letā€™s see if he can join in. Phil Jones is back so weā€™re looking stronger.ā€

ā€œMason [Greenwood] has been ill, so heā€™s not trained this week. He might be training this morning so letā€™s see how he is.

ā€œSergio [Romero] been absolutely fantastic and he must have the world record for clean sheets in the percentage of games heā€™s played. Heā€™s kept nine [clean sheets] in the last 11 games, or something like that, in the FA Cup so thatā€™s fantastic.ā€

Ole Gunnar Solskajer has given a brutally fair assessment of his first few months in charge, perhaps a little too honest.

ā€œYou’re always measured on results, but we played a good game against Arsenal,ā€ said Solskjaer. ā€œWe’ve played so much worse and won games, and that’s the strange thing when you’re a manager.”

ā€œYou can look behind the result and say that was a good performance, we didn’t get what we deserved. It’s so strange, the Arsenal one. We were very disappointed in the result, but we can’t look at the performance and say we were s***, because we weren’t, to be honest and blunt, we weren’t. We played well.ā€

ā€œWe’ve done well, of course. We’ve given ourselves a chance to be in and amongst top four, we’re in the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League.”

ā€œWe’ve been on a good run now. it’s not ‘squeaky bum time’ like the gaffer used to say, but it tightens up.

ā€œIn April and May, at Manchester United, we narrow the focus and it’s now about winning trophies and making use of the squad.

ā€œI didn’t have a schedule [in mind]. I had until May to do whatever I could with the team, and playing style, mood, everything, has been going well.

ā€œBut then again football kicks you in the teeth sometimes and it’s always the next day. If we get through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, then I’ll have a nice few days back home.ā€

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Recognizes PSG Outcast As The Ideal Replacement For Ander Herrera

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to pursue the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.

The 23-year-old is currently suspended from the clubā€™s activities till March 27 March due to his reaction after PSGā€™s Champions League exit.

He was noticed dancing at a nightclub the very evening the Parisians got defeated 1-3 by United. The clubā€™s director, Antero Henriquez did not take too well to Rabiotā€™s social media activity either.

The midfielder liked Patrice Evraā€™s celebratory message in support of the Red Devils. With his contract running down to an end, it is unlikely that Rabiot would sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 giant.

Instead, plenty of reports had linked him with a move to Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal over the past few months. Talks seemed to have progressed with Ernesto Valverdeā€™s camp but has not been concluded yet.

This leaves United with enough ground to make a convincing offer. It is being reported that Solskjaer would like to replace Ander Herrera with Adrien Rabiot in the Red Devils starting lineup.

The Spaniardā€™s obligations to the club are set to end after this season as well and Solskjaer cannot rely on a 30-year-old Nemanja Matic to carry out all the midfield responsibilities.

Rabiot finally broke his silence and gave us an insight into his current situation with PSG. He said, ā€œItā€™s not that Iā€™m hiding away, I am available to the club. If I could play, I would. Iā€™ve always been a club man. I didnā€™t like it [being eliminated from the Champions League], it was disappointing.ā€

According to the Sun, the Frenchman wants a signing bonus of Ā£10m along with a contract worth Ā£200,000 per week.

Manchester United are set to renew their pursuit of Toby Alderweireld in the summer.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender was supposed to leave the club at the end of this season but Spurs triggered a one year extension clause prevented the player from leaving the club.

United came really close in the summer but the North London giants refused to budge on to their demands. The 30 year old has refused a new contract at the club and Spurs are destined to lose the player in the summer.

The one year extension clause also has compelled the club to accept any offer of Ā£26m or more in the final two weeks of the summer. United have played really well under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Norwegian is set to be handed the permanent charge.

Solskjaer has managed to plug Unitedā€™s defensive vulnerabilities to some extent but bringing a new defender would be his utmost priority. Alderweireld has been one of the most superior defenders in the English top flight and could pair up with Victor Lindelof to solidify the United backline.

Chief executive Ed Woodward is slated to make some big signings in the summer and Alderweireld could be the first of many.

Manchester United Could Be Forced To Reverse Their Champions League Fixture

Manchester United Could Be Forced To Reverse Their Champions League Fixture

Manchester United could be forced to alternate their Champions League quarter final fixtures if they are drawn at home alongside Manchester City in the same week.

United moved to the quarters with a brilliant comeback win over Paris Saint Germain in Paris while their archrivals thrashed Schalke to seal a last eight birth. The draw for the quarters will take place on Friday and alongside the Manchester teams Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax, Barcelona, Porto and Juventus will also take part.

There is a possibility that both the Manchester clubs could be seen pitted against each other or they could also face the other English teams.

However, UEFA has made it clear United will have to reverse their home fixture as Police and other authorities wonā€™t be able to conduct two big matches in Manchester in the same week.

UEFA said, “Manchester City and Manchester United will not be able to play at home on the same night, nor on consecutive nights, following a decision made by the relevant local authorities.

“Therefore, should both clubs be drawn at home in the same week, the team having finished lower in the domestic league the previous season – in this case Manchester United – will be reversed in accordance with the UEFA Club Competitions Committee principles.

“Any potential reversal for the semi-finals, for the same reason, would be confirmed after the quarter-finals.”

Why United’s comeback against PSG was so good for English football

For the first time, for what seems in a long long time, the UEFA Champions League will entertain four English teams in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The likelihood was always rare. Manchester City were expected to go through and they did so handsomely by humiliating Shalke 04 in a 10-2 aggregate scoreline. However, the other 3 teams started in a 50-50 condition at best.

Tottenham Hotspur made easy work of the Bundesliga title challengers Borussia Dortmund by beating them 3-0 in the first leg. Liverpool had an evenly poised first leg but had the advantage of stopping Bayern from scoring away goals.

It was United who were the ones under trouble. In December, when their fixture against PSG was announced, Jose Mourinho had almost sunk the United ship. PSG were flying with Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe.

Ole came around by the time of the tie but still could not manage to get a win as Old Trafford saw them lose 2-0. With 10 crucial first team players out, nobody ever expected United to turn around the tie at PSG, against a team who had Mbappe and Cavani in the squad.

They did the unthinkable and in doing so, four English teams have progressed and it has helped because it has directly increased their coefficient points by taking it away from German and French challengers.

Philippe Coutinho Hints At Summer Move To Premier League Giants

Philippe Coutinho has hinted at possibly moving away from Barcelona in the future with his comments after Barcelonaā€™s convincing 5-1 victory over Olympique Lyon.

The Brazilian has drawn plenty of links to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months after undergoing a poor run of form at the Camp Nou.

Moving away from Liverpool on a record transfer, Coutinho has failed to meet the expectations of both the club and the fans had of him. He is still adjusting to Barcelonaā€™s style of play under Ernesto Valverde and with Lionel Messi dictating proceedings on the attacking front.

However, he has been supported by every single one of his Blaugrana coaches and teammates time and time again. It might be far too early to judge the 26-year-oldā€™s impact in this current Barcelona setup but one has to consider the true intentions of the club.

With Coutinho still fairly young, his transfer value is still pretty high with a few European big guns ready to whisk him away. It might not to be a huge surprise to see the La Liga giant cut their losses towards possible getting back Neymar or finding a more player more suited to their needs.

After collecting a goal in last nightā€™s win to help his side progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Coutinho said, ā€œIn the last few weeks, months even, Iā€™ve not been playing well.ā€

ā€œBut I still want to improve. ā€˜I came to Barcelona to give my best. I live for the moment. You never know what the future holds. I am happy with my performance today.ā€
