Manchester United Need Two Years To Become Title Contenders: Solskjaer

0

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the Red Devils need two years to become title contenders. The Norweigan notched up another win in the Premier League against Fulham and has now led his team to the fourth spot in the league table.

Speaking to the media, the Manchester United manager said, “We’re too far behind this year, obviously.”

He added, “You’ve got to catch up with the other teams ahead of us, especially City, Liverpool but now Tottenham – they’re really in the running as well. Two years’ time is long enough, but also short enough to say that we’ve got the possibility to make a big difference in our preparation, in everything.”

When asked whether the club needs to sign new players to challenge for the title, Solskjaer said, “It is about who we’ve got here as well. If every single player can improve by 1-2% it is not about X amount of players. It’s not just buy a superstar and that will fix things and suddenly we go from challenging to be among the top four to being champions.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Feels This Manchester United Squad Can Entertain For Years

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the current Manchester United squad can entertain for years with its exciting brand of football.

United broke into the top four with a thumping victory over Fulham at the Craven Cottage. Paul Pogba opened the scoring with a sublime left foot finish followed by a superb solo effort from Anthony Martial. Pogba secured the three points as he netted his 11th goal from the spot following a foul on Juan Mata inside the penalty box.

With Manchester City set to host Chelsea United could retain the fourth place if the defending champions get the better of Maurizio Sarri’s side. Solskjaer has managed to get the best out from all the United players and with Paris Saint Germain up ahead in the Champions League they need to maintain the momentum.

“I’ve always looked further ahead. I’ve followed United since I signed for them as a player. Of course I look at the squad, players, who can produce and perform now, next year and in two years?

“Even here you’ve got players who can perform for five, six, seven, eight, nine years because it’s such a young squad, an exciting squad.

“At the moment I’m just concentrating on getting us up the table, we’re fourth, let’s hope we can stay there and go higher.”

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is January’s Premier League player of the month.

The youngster has been on a rampage mode banging goals after goals in this new regime. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s influence on the player has made a huge difference and Rashford has been playing with more freedom and hunger.

Solskajer decided to reinstate the youngster to his natural centre forward position and he has repaid the faith with a number of exemplary performances. Romelu Lukaku has been forced to sit out on the bench and it remains to be seen if the 21 year old can manage to maintain the momentum for the remainder of the season.

Rashford said, “It’s always good to pick up individual awards but I think the way we’ve performed as a team has been very good over the last few weeks.

”The aim for us now is to just continue it, but we have to take it game by game and one step at a time.”

“I think the consistency. I’ve always said that’s the difference between the best players in the world and good players. In football, the fact that you can repeat it time and time again, season upon season, is the big difference between the two categories of players.

”Consistency is something you always want to improve and, for a young player, it can be difficult but I think over the last two months we’ve got it right.“

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been awarded the Premier League manager of the month for January.

Manchester United’s brilliant form since he took over the charge has helped them in closing the gap with the top four in the Premier League. The former United striker is yet to be defeated in his new role and deservingly has won the prestigious award.

Former manager Jose Mourinho failed to win the award even for once and the Solskjaer has become the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to receive the accolade.

United started the month with two straight wins over Newcastle United and Reading in the Premier League and FA Cup respectively. The Red Devils then edged out Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 followed by a closely contested victory against Brighton & Hove Albion.

A win over archrival Arsenal and a 2-2 draw with Burnley set the tone for an excellent February. The manager said, “Honestly, I’m a little bit against individual team awards for a team sport.

“but it means we’ve been the team of the month, so this is both for the staff and the players.

We complement each other really well,

”The hours and hours that Kieran and Michael spend on planning the sessions, doing the sessions, working with individuals. We’re a good group. We bounce off each other. Opinions are being thrown about in that office and in the end I’m the “lucky one” that has to make a decision on who to leave out or to play.

“We want to be winning games. We want to move up the table and this is the start of it.”

Phil Jones has penned a new deal at Manchester United to extend his association with the club.

The defender has committed his future for four more years with the club also has an option to extend it for a further year. The defender has been involved pretty frequently since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge and it seems he is likely to be involved more as The Red Devils do have a number of very tricky fixtures ahead.

Jones was about to be a free player in the next summer but with his current contract he has become the third player after Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial to extend his association with the club.

Jones said, “I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club.

“I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season. I would like to thank Ole and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development.”

Solskjaer also lauded the player’s potential. “Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team.

“He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre-half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club.”

Former Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia has said the lure to move to a Muslim country was the real reason that he rejected the opportunity to join Manchester United. The player had been on the radar of the Red Devils for a long time and was tipped to join them this winter. However, he has now revealed why he chose to join the Qatar based club Al Duhail ahead of Manchester United.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Moroccan skipper said, “I faced criticism from the Moroccan sports critics after moving to Doha but I want everyone to respect my decision because it was the best for me and for my family.”

He added, “I want my kids to grow up in an Islamic atmosphere, and I could go to clubs in the UAE or Saudi Arabia but I preferred to be with Al Duhail, and there are a lot of Moroccan players who play in the national team and are with the Gulf clubs. [Morocco] coach Herve Renard knows me well and if he sees that I do not deserve to be with the national team, I will respect this decision.”

Jesse Lingard has heaped praises on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisting the former Manchester United forward knows the pulse of the club and has forwarded the legacy to lead United’s recent revival.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as the interim manager and since then has been a revelation. United are yet to loss a match under his guidance and looked solid in all department.

The likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have found their rhythm back and Solskjaer’s fluid attacking style has been the main reason behind their resurgence.

Top four looked to be a distant dream for the Red Devils but a string of wins in the last few matches has helped them to cut the gap to just two points with fourth placed Chelsea.

Lingard said, “Solskjaer and Mike Phelan have brought back the old school Manchester United.

They know the league and the club inside out so to pass that on and get us playing how we are has been perfect,

“Solskjaer is doing very well. Nobody can fault him. He has taken a lot on but he already knew what he was doing when he came in. He got the players backing him straight away.

“He told us there are big expectations and pressure at this club but we have to deal with it and play like a real United team. We will challenge for the title next season if we carry on how we are now.”

Manchester United goal keeper Dean Henderson is reportedly a target of Bayern Munich and Juventus.

The 21 year old is currently on loan at Sheffield United and has attracted interests with his brilliant shot stopping skills for the Championship side. He has been central to their promotional campaign this term and has been involved pretty regularly this season.

The young shot stopper signed a new two year contract last summer but is yet to make a first team appearance for the Red Devils since joining the club back in 2011. Although the club has the option to extend it for a year they are likely to offer him a new deal in a bid to thwart all advances.

Henderson is regarded as the potential successor of David De Gea who has been the undisputed number one choice in the United goal. Henderson is much behind in the pecking order but could be promoted to the first team setup if he maintains his growth.

The English man is frustrated with his current status at the club but is unlikely to leave the club anytime soon. both Bayern and Juventus are monitoring his development pretty closely and could launch an attempt in this summer.

Manchester United have opened negotiations with Marcus Rashford in a bid to tie him to a long term contract.

The youngster has hogged all the limelight with his brilliant form off late and has been the focal point of Manchester United’s recent revival. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has preferred him in the central role over Romelu Lukaku and results have been pretty encouraging so far.

Rashford’s progress hasn’t gone unnoticed and a number of clubs including Real Madrid are monitoring his development. The forward is regarded as one of the hottest prospects and is being seen as the future of the Red Devils setup.

Rashford’s contract is set to expire at the end of the next season and although the club has the option of an extra one year the player is likely to be rewarded for his prolific form. A substantial wage hike is also in the offing and the 21 year old could take home around £150,000 a week should he sign on the dotted line.

Anthony Martial’s recent contract extension could pave the way for a number of new deals as the likes of Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and David De Gea are also in the line to receive new offers.

Manchester United Signs Ashley Young To A £110,000 Extension

The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United have extended Ashley Young’s contract by one more season.

The 33-year-old is set to remain at Old Trafford for 9 years after making the switch from Aston Villa for £17m in 2011. He had attracted offers from several other English outfits but the former England international wanted to continue with the top flight giants.

When asked about his future back in December, Young was quoted, “I feel as fit as when I was 21 years old. As long as my legs can keep taking me up and down the pitch, I’d love to stay here.”

Primarily being a winger, Young has adapted his game in the later stages of his career to fill in a fullback on a regular basis. Jose Mourinho introduced him into the position when United were severely understaffed in the left-back department.

Young did take a fair bit of time to adjust to the role, making the usual mistakes in defence. But eventually, he did catch up to become an integral part of the squad. Even after Mourinho’s departure, he continues to make regular appearances from both left and right flanks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Young’s new deal with United will see him earn £110,000-per-week which is quite lucrative for a veteran. With the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford hitting their best form under the Norwegian boss, Young’s days as an attacking winger might be over but he still holds the cake over youngster Diogo Dalot and Antonio Valencia.
