Reporters asked Ten Hag about United, the club, and whether it is still attractive to football’s best players.

Erik ten Hag admits the best players in the world want to play for Manchester United.

In the new documentary Haaland – The Big Decision, the former Dortmund striker mentions a list of clubs as possible destinations. The Norwegian made his move to the City in the summer after the transfer became one of the worst-kept secrets in football.

But, Manchester United were not included in that list. It contained City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PAG, Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona.

Reporters took it upon themselves at Friday’s press conference to ask Ten Hag about United, the club, and whether it is still attractive to football’s best players. It seems ridiculous that this is even a topic of conversation after seeing United sign Casemiro – but the newspapers won’t print themselves…

“I’m sure when I go back in the window and I was in contact with a lot of players, a lot of players, you feel Man United is a really attractive club for them. So I’m not concerned about that point,” Ten Hag said, as per Manchester Evening News.

“Let’s say some have the potential to become [the best in the world] and some already are there. We have world champion players in our squad, so they are the best in the world, you can say that.

“We have a lot of players who already win the biggest titles in the world.”

These quotes will inevitably lead to sarcastic questions about Frenkie de Jong across social media, but Ten Hag raises a good point when you consider how Raphael Varane joined United from Real Madrid over a year ago.

Man United will visit Etihad for the Manchester derby.

The Red Devils will make a trip to Etihad on the back of four victories including wins over Liverpool and Arsenal.

They will now be facing reigning champions Manchester City who have not lost a game this season.

Erling Haaland is currently the leading Premier League goalscorer with 11 goals for the Cityzens.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has suggested Lisandro Martinez steer away from Haaland as he would struggle with physicality.

“The best advice Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag can offer Lisandro Martinez about dealing with Erling Haaland is to keep away from him,” Carragher told The Telegraph.

“Some battles can be won by outmuscling or outplaying an opponent. Other players need out-thinking. Martinez must be at his smartest to get the better of his Manchester City rival this weekend.

“You cannot completely keep away from your direct opponent, of course, but with experience comes the knowledge that you need to pick your battles and identify the right areas in which to duel.”

Paul Pogba aims to take more responsibility after leaving Manchester United.

The 29-year-old midfielder departed Old Trafford on a free transfer for the second time in his career.

He re-signed for Juventus but is yet to play his first game for the Old Lady this season.

Paul Pogba explains how things didn’t go planned during his second stint at Old Trafford.

“I can promise that I will work hard to get back on the pitch as soon as possible to help the team gain the victories we deserve. I like to face challenges with a smile in life and football,” Pogba told GQ Magazine when asked about his injury.

“My love for this sport motivates me to give my best every day. I am accustomed to handling rumours, having begun my career early. My heart made a choice, it was the right moment to return [Juventus]. The last three years in Manchester did not go as I wanted.

“This is no secret. I was affected by injuries. A return to Juventus was a great challenge for the club and me. I learned a lot at Manchester United and now I am a different player. I must take more responsibility.”

Bruno Fernandes claims Eriksen’s arrival has made him more effective in matches.

Both midfielders started in each of United’s six Premier League games and has formed a effective relationship in the middle of the park.

Eriksen has been dropping more and dictating the game from the base of the midfield whereas Fernandes has been able to push forward.

Fernandes speaks out on his new partnership with the summer signing.

He told on club’s official website: “It’s really good to play with Christian, he’s a player that can find the passes, find the pockets and obviously make my game easier because he finds me when I move between the lines. It’s something that’s not easy to do,” Bruno explains in the exclusive TeamViewer feature.

“I’m really happy to have him on the team because, as I’ve said before, he’s a quality player. He’s a player who’s showed in the past that he has really good qualities in the Premier League, in the Italian league, even for his national team.

“So, it’s always a pleasure to play with players like him.”

Red Devils are prepared to take advantage of Torres’ contract situation to get him for under €65 million.

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

The Spain international has been on the club’s radar for the past two summers before deciding to sign Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Torres will see his contract expiring in 2024, so the Spanish giants will be forced to make a decision next summer.

According to La Razon, the Red Devils are prepared to take advantage of Torres’ contract situation to get him for under €65 million.

Torres has established himself as one of the best centre-backs across Europe. His physicality and ball-playing ability instantly make him such an appealing option.

The 25-year-old would be ideal in Ten Hag’s possession-based system. His performances have improved every year, and it looks like he is ready to take the next step in his career.

Ten Hag is said to want to strengthen in other areas, so it is to be seen whether United decide to pursue this deal next summer.

Lisandro Martinez is likely to be Argentina’s starting centre-back.

The Argentina national team players are set to ask their players to try and not play club matches in the days leading to the World Cup.

As per the reports of news outlet Doble Amarilla, the weekend between November 11-13 will see many Albiceleste players make an effort not to feature for their clubs.

The measure is not only intended to keep players from picking up injuries ahead of the tournament but also to rest them.

The reigning Copa America champions Argentina are favourites to lift the trophy this year. They missed out the glory in the 2014 World Cup when they lost to Germany.

As per double Amarilla, there is recognition that such an action will not be easy for the players to see through with their clubs.

If this happens, Manchester United will likely miss out on the services of Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho.

Lisandro Martinez has been a key player for the Red Devils this season. The 24-year-old has become a mainstay at United’s backline since his arrival from Ajax. United won back-to-back four games this season and is currently 5th in the table.

Lisandro Martinez is likely to be Argentina’s starting centre-back along with Tottenham’s Cristian Romero.

Another that could miss out is Garnacho, who has barely featured for United this season. Martinez and the young Garnacho could miss out against Aston Villa in the League Cup on November 10 before a trip to London to face Fulham on the 13th.

Summer signing Antony scored on his debut.

Antony made his switch to Old Trafford this summer and has scored his first goal for the club just 48 hours after his arrival.

Manager Erik Ten Hag was keen on a left-footed winger to play on the right side and we can see why the Dutchman went for the Brazilian for an exorbitant fee.

Currently playing with Brazil, Antony admitted that the training is quite different to that of Ajax even being under the same manager.

“Training is very different but I’d prepared for it mentally,” Antony said on the official Man United website.

“I knew how intense it would be as I’ve always followed the Premier League. I knew how intense the games were and have prepared and trained a lot to be at 100 per cent as soon as possible.

“The team are part of an excellent squad so we have got to know each other and established an understanding to reach this level and develop our football. We are getting to know each other better each day, game by game, so that this harmony can flow and it all works out.”

Harry Maguire has defended England and his place in the team.

The Red Devils has endured a prolonged run of poor form but England manager Gareth Southgate looks to stick with him.

Southgate has kept his faith in the 29-year-old defender, a decision which came under heavy scrutiny.

Maguire told talkSPORT: “I am all good, ready to play, I feel fit and fresh. On my form, I don’t know what has been said, I don’t really read about it.

“I came off the back of three positive games with England in the summer, and a good pre-season, I felt really good.

“Obviously, the manager [Erik ten Hag] decided to leave me out for a game, and the team have been winning since. I am working hard on the training pitch to make sure I am ready for when my opportunity comes.

“That is all what I can do to try and help the team. I am not concentrating on anybody else and what people are saying, I think if people can make a story about me, I am Manchester United captain, it is going to make big news.”

Manchester United announces net loss of £115.5m for the 2021-22 season

Manchester United’s debt also went up, from £419.5m in 2021 to £514.9m this year.

Manchester United have announced a net loss of £115.5m for the 2021-22 season even though revenues rose by 18 per cent to £583.2m.

The Red Devils released incorporating the end of their financial year in June showed losses rose by £23.3m compared to 2021.

The club’s debt also went up, from £419.5m in 2021 to £514.9m this year, an increase of more than 22 per cent.

“Our club’s mission is to win football matches and entertain our fans,” chief executive Richard Arnold said.

As a result of the signings, last summer of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane wages rose by 19.1 per cent, a rise of £61.6m to £384.2m.

That figure is the highest in Premier League history, surpassing the previous total of £355m set by Manchester City.

“Our financial results for fiscal 2022 reflect a recovery from the pandemic, a full return of fans and new commercial partnerships offset by increased investment in the playing squad,” said chief financial officer Cliff Baty.

“Our results have been adversely affected by the absence of a summer tour in July 2021, material exceptional and increased utility costs, and the impact of the weakening of sterling on our non-cash finance costs.”

Pay-offs to managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick and their associated coaching staff amounted to £24.7m.
