Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that former manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s influence has helped him in his managerial spell at Old Trafford so far.
Solskjaer played under Alex Ferguson who turned 77 yesterday during his entire playing career at Manchester United. He helped Manchester United win plenty of silverware. However, his greatest hour was surely at Camp Nou in 1999 where he scored the last-gasp winner to win the Champions League and a continental treble for the Red Devils.
The former Norway international replaced Jose Mourinho as Manchester United’s manager after the latter’s sacking. His appointment has seen the massive change in United’s fortunes. The club has won all three matches under the Norwegian, scoring at least three goals in all of them.
Solskjaer said, “I’ve had him for 15 years. So obviously he’s influenced me more in the 15 years before than he’s done the last week. But obviously I do keep him informed and he did pay us a visit yesterday and I think he enjoyed his time at the training ground and had a nice few chats, us and the staff, and he encouraged us.
He knows that we are – the staff I’ve got – Man United through and through, and he knows we’re going to do whatever we can, up to the last second that we’re here, we’re going to do everything we can for us and Manchester United to do as best we can.”
The 45-year old added, “I don’t know if I’m at home at this level, but I’m at home at this club. I’ve spent 15 years here and that’s just me and just seeing all the people when you walk through the corridors here, it’s me, and I’m comfortable in the environment.
So it’s up to you probably to rate me, if I’m up to the level, but I’m definitely enjoying my time back home.”
Manchester United begin 2019 by playing against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park tomorrow.
