Teddy Sheringham Believes Paul Pogba Would Have Been An Automatic Fit In The 1999 Treble Winning Side

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham believes Poul Pogba would have been a perfect fit in the 1999 treble winning team.

The Red Devils have been one of the most successful clubs on European soil over the last few decades and have produced a number of talented footballers. 1999 was one of the crucial years in United’s history as the club went on to win Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

Sheringham was a pivotal part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans and scored the much important equaliser in the Champions League final. Current interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer broke the German hearts as he netted the winner against Bayern Munich to round off a brilliant come back.

On being asked if Pogba would make way into the team the former United forward replied, “I think he would because he is a very talented player.

“He would have been brought back down to earth at the right times when he’s… not stepping out of line, because you’re not stepping out of line, you’re just not doing the right things at the right times.

“That’s what made our team so good. We did all the right things at the right times.

“There’s a lot of players who do the wrong things constantly. You have to do the right things at the right times for you to be part of a team.

“I think he would have been told by the senior members, ‘pass the ball. Stop showing how good you are. We play as a team’.

“The more you keep telling them, you hope that the penny drops.

“There’s always times to do that bit of flashness, to get you out of a problem on the football pitch, but not every time you get it.”
