The Brazilian midfielder joined Manchester United this summer
Manchester United completed the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred for a fee in the region of £52.5 million during the transfer window. He signed a five-year deal which includes a club option for a further 12 months upon its expiry.
The Red Devils reached an agreement to sign the Brazil International two weeks after he underwent a medical at United’s AON Training Complex less than 24 hours after turning out for the Selecao in their pre-tournament friendly win over Croatia at Anfield.
Jose Mourinho was keeping tabs on the 25 year old since January after the player impressed him with his consistent performances in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola was also interested in him but United blew them out of water, as their offer was more than their rivals.
The midfielder took an active part in the club’s pre-season, impressing with his performances. He has played in both of the club’s opening Premier League fixtures, winning against Leicester City and a shocking defeat against Brighton last weekend.
There were speculations that there were dissent among the ranks at the club but the Brazilian dismissed the speculations on Saturday. He said: “The media love to talk.
“The dressing room has an excellent atmosphere. From what I’ve seen since I arrived, no one has a problem with anybody.
“It’s the contrary. Everyone wants to help everyone.”
The player also admitted that one of his goals at Old Trafford is to bring some life to the dressing room.
“Anderson is a really lively guy, a really cheerful guy. That’s what Brazilians are like – we’re always having a laugh, we’re always smiling, and my aim is to bring this spirit into the dressing room and onto the pitch, to play with a smile on my face,” he told the club’s match-day programme as quoted by Goal. “This helps for me settling in, and the football side of things too.”
