Manchester United on the verge of defensive revamp with Giorgio Scalvini signing

Manchester United is on the verge of achieving a significant defensive coup by signing Atalanta’s young star, Giorgio Scalvini. The Red Devils, who have struggled with defensive injuries and a dismal performance this season, are interested in signing the 20-year-old Italian center-back.

Despite Erik ten Hag trying with ten different center-back pairings this season, United has unable to find defensive consistency. Ten Hag had requested defensive reinforcement in the summer, but the board did not grant his request, leaving the team vulnerable at the back.

According to Express, Manchester United is ready to activate Scalvini’s £44 million release clause in the next weeks, with negotiations presumably in the final stages. The young defender, one of Europe’s most highly ranked talents, has attracted the interest of Chelsea and Real Madrid, increasing the fight for his signing.

Scalvini, who is only 20 years old, brings tremendous promise to Old Trafford. His outstanding achievements for Atalanta acquired him a place in the Italian national team, where he appeared seven times.

With Raphael Varane set to leave and Jonny Evans’ contract set to expire, Ten Hag is looking to redevelop his defensive options. Scalvini’s arrival would represent a positive beginning to United’s defensive overhaul, adding much-needed solidity and youth to the backline.

As United looks to bounce back from a recent dismal defeat to Nottingham Forest, the probable signing of Giorgio Scalvini represents a significant step toward addressing their defensive weaknesses.
