Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic have been long-time targets of United.

However, there is a high risk another club might make a steal.

Manchester United are looking to invest in their squad in January after a dismal start to the season. The Red Devils are currently ninth in the league and have already lost four times in thirteen games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were linked with two Juventus stars but it seems that one Bundesliga giant may beat them to the double-signature.

According to a report by SportBILD, Borussia Dortmund have joined Manchester United in the chase for Juventus pair, Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic. The two players have fallen out of favour in Turin and were excluded from the Champions League list. As such, they are now looking for a way out.

The Red Devils were reportedly keen on signing the pair. Furthermore, rumors over the past few months claimed that the Red Devils had sealed the signing of Mandzukic for the January window. However, with Dortmund now in the mix, the English side may find it difficult to easily complete the double deal. Any club interested in signing the two players will have to pay Juventus a fee of €30 million.

United, meanwhile, also attempted to sign Juventus star Paulo Dybala in the summer window. However, the move ultimately broke down over personal reasons and it remains to be seen whether they will return for him in January.

David De Gea Issues Winning Challenge To His Manchester United Teammates

Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways against Aston Villa on Sunday.

David De Gea has set a lofty target for his teammates after the side lost 2-1 against Astana.

It is still a mountain for them to climb if they want to revive a challenge for one of the top four spots. De Gea certainly thinks his team is capable and are pushing them to go on a five-game winning streak.

“The team is what it is, and results are what they have been recently,” he said. “It’s true that the first half was horrible, probably one of the worst this year. The reaction of the team in the second half was important, but it’s not enough.

“We should win these type of games to be on top, we need to win four or five games in a row to be at the top, but at the moment the team is not playing so well.

“We’re giving it everything, we’re trying to get those big wins that can put us high up in the table, but the truth is at the moment we’re not consistent enough, there’s much to train and much to improve.

“I don’t think it’s through any lack of effort, the boys are leaving everything out on the field in training and games. You could point maybe to a lack of quality in certain areas, but certainly not a lack of fight.”

Jesse Lingard Insists He Can Win Manchester United More Silverware

Jesse Lingard feels like he can win more silverware with Manchester United even under Ole Solskjaer.

Lingard is ready to fight for his place in the England team. He said, “There’s always that hunger and fight for positions and obviously it goes down to form and where you’re at club wise so, for me, it’s about getting back to the Jesse that everyone knows and the Jesse Lingard that I know.

“Things can affect that on the pitch, off the pitch, but mentality is key, confidence is key and belief is key.

“I’m a player who likes to score goals, make assists and, for me, I need to get back to that, back to my best and I feel I’m slowly but surely getting back there.

“For club, my ambition is definitely a trophy. We’ve worked so hard last season, this season we started off well.

“A trophy is in our sights and we have to concentrate on winning a trophy, getting that winning feeling by lifting a trophy.

“For England, Euros is a really important competition. It’s in Europe, quite a few games at Wembley, a ground we’re used to, so the ball’s in our court and I feel we can do well in that competition.

“Any competition that Man United are in, we want to win that trophy. The Europa League, we want to win that, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, we want as many trophies as we can. That’s down to everyone’s mentality and we have that winning mentality at United. That’s what we expect.”

Ole Solskjaer hopes to have Paul Pogba in time to face Mourinho

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to have Paul Pogba back just in time for Manchester United’s clash against Tottenham.

“Paul is stepping up his recovery and let’s see how soon he’ll be match-fit and available,” Solskjaer said following a youthful United side’s 2-1 Europa League defeat to Astana on Thursday.

“He’ll be like a new signing for us. He’s not really been able to play for us and, when we get him back, it’ll be like a new world-class signing and world-class midfielder.

“We want him back as soon as possible. Sunday? No. Spurs? I can’t say now as I’ve not been home and seen him. Let’s see where he’s at when he comes back and he starts training with us.

“Nobody can doubt his professionalism, his willingness or desire to play football. He’s a footballer and one of the best midfielders in the world. It will be like a new signing before the transfer window opens.

“Of course, we have missed him when he’s been away but some of the players, Scott [McTominay] and Fred, have taken up that challenge and done well.”

Solskjaer is also optimistic about Scott McTominay returning to the first team.

“We hope Scotty will be back as soon as possible, but he’s also back home and I’ve not see him,” Solskjaer added.

“Maybe [he can face] Spurs, but hopefully [he will be back on] Sunday.”

Ole Solskjaer praises young fullback's impact on United teammates

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Brandon Williams’ impact on the rest of his Manchester United youth teammates.

“I think the performances of Brandon have been a big, big plus. Not just for him, not just me, but for Ethan today, who’s played with Brandon through the years.

“So, for me, it’s also a big boost for Ethan because we’ve got many, many full-backs, loads of them who compete. I’ve been very pleased with Brandon, he scored a great goal, so let’s see where they’re at. Great to have Luke through 90 minutes today and let’s see for Sunday.”

Speaking about Axel Tuanzebe, Solskjaer added, “Axel could give the team talk, that’s for sure!” Solskjaer joked. “Axel has done fantastic, he got 90 minutes tonight and he got 10 minutes against Sheffield United as well.

“He’s fit now and available and I thought he did well against Astana. He gives me another headache but it’s a good headache to have players coming back, because we have suffered with injuries badly. Now we’re getting more and more back and it will only help us.

“I’ve watched Villa a few times, they were unlucky not to get away with the points against Liverpool and we’re the only ones who’ve managed that, so we know how difficult that is. And I think they’ve done really well.”

Former Manchester United player makes managerial claim about Solskjaer

Former Manchester United player makes managerial claim about Solskjaer

Joshua King believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can be successful at Manchester United but only if he is given time.

The Bournemouth played under Solskjaer when he was still in with the United U23s.

King later departed for Blackburn and then settled down with Bournemouth, scoring 47 goals in 156 appearances. He also netted the winner against the Red Devils earlier this month.

King believes Solskjaer will come good for United only if the board backs him. “He was good, but it was the start of his managerial career,’ he told FourFourTwo. “He was brilliant with me, and helped me. I know him as a person and a manager and have loads of respect for him.

“When he took over United I was very happy for him and his family because I know how much that meant for him as a person – it’s always been his dream. I hope and believe he’ll get United back to where they were, but obviously they need time.”

Marcus Rashford has previously stated how Solskjaer’s coaching was different and more beneficial to him than that of Jose Mourinho’s. The Norwegian was a top forward during his playing days and seems to have had the same impact on Joshua King.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United lost to Astana in a lowly Europa League tie that matterered little to anyone.

The United outfit which was full of youngsters and saw their boss give full debut to three teenagers and overall debut to six from the academy lost 2-1.

However, the result was of little consequence as they have already qualified for the next round, the Round of 32 in the Europa League.

To Ole however, what mattered was the performance of the young lads, many of whom dawned the Red Devils jersey for the first time in their career.

Their performance was very good,” he said.

“At times we were excellent and short spells we let them push us back and that cost us in the end because it was a big 10 minute spell they had in the second half and you could see they were growing in the game that’s when you want these boys to learn from this and maybe someone stay down or get organised.

But we had chances ourselves and some excellent debuts.”

Asked if it was a learning experience, Solskjaer added: “You’ve got to put them on the pitch before you know if they’re good enough. The full debuts I thought all three were excellent.”

Nemanja Matic Suddenly Leaves Manchester United Training

Nemanja Matic Suddenly Leaves Manchester United Training

Nemanja Matic reportedly left Manchester United’s Wednesday training session after just 24 minutes.

Rumours are circling about his potential departure from Old Trafford in January.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has chosen the Serb in only 5 games this season and has often picked Scott McTominay, Fred and Andreas Pereira over him. There is no doubt that at 31, Matic’s best days are behind him but does he deserve to drop so far down the pecking order?

He is waiting to play since September and the wait could continue through United’s Europa League fixture against Astana on Thursday night. Matic arrived in training with a jolly attitude, expressing no signs of a sudden departure.

The reason behind him leaving the session so soon has only raise speculation about his future. He has already been linked to the likes of Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan. Tottenham Hotspur also seem like a strong possibility now that his former boss, Jose Mourinho has taken charge of the North Londoners.

The Red Devils are more than happy to offload Matic. Solskjaer is keen to add a younger piece to his midfield ranks. He is known to be keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

Ed Woodward Reveals How Many Transfer Requests He Denied Mourinho

Ed Woodward Reveals How Many Transfer Requests He Denied Mourinho

Ed Woodward admits to denying Jose Mourinho’s request when the Portuguese was still at Manchester United.

Currently at Tottenham, Mourinho always blamed United’s lack of investments as the reason behind his struggles.

He was desperate to sign a capable centre-back in his final season in charge but only received Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant that summer. After a string of poor results and a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool, the 56-year-old was sacked.

Woodward has been criticised for his business-like approach to club matters but we did see the Red Devils splash out £130m on Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this past transfer window.

Speaking to United We Stand, he said, “It is true that there was a difference of opinion on one or two players between the manager and the recruitment department.

“Sometimes I have to be one who delivers the ‘no’, which isn’t easy, because our natural tendency is to back the manager in every possible circumstance, but we have to listen to the recruitment experts too.”

Mourinho was asked earlier in the 2019/20 campaign when he was still out of work whether he wanted Maguire. The Spurs boss had replied, “He arrived one year later.”

He had a different idea of the squad he inherited at North London as he added, “Players… the best gift are the ones that are here. I don’t need players, I am happy with the players that I have. I just need time to understand them better to know everything about them. My gift is this squad, it is very good.”

Manchester United firm favorites to land Erling Haaland

The competition for the hat-trick hero is stiff.

However, the Premier League side have emerged as favorites to sign him.

Manchester United are in pole position to push forward for Erling Haaland and will submit an offer for the Red Bull Salzburg striker in January, according to reports. The 19-year-old is one of the most in-demand young players in Europe having scored 26 goals in 18 appearances for the Austrian club this season.

The Athletic reports that United are confident of bringing the Norwegian to the club, due to the star forward’s history his compatriot and Red Devils’ boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Athletic‘s Laurie Whitwell revealed that Haaland moving to Old Trafford is “very much a possibility”. Whitwell’s reporting partner David Ornstein also shared his thoughts on a possible deal for the 19-year-old, and revealed that the staff at the club’s training ground are confident that it will be completed by next summer.

“One person who works for another club and moves in these circles said to me that it’s an unkept secret, ‘everybody knows Anf-Inge Haaland has been seen and visited United’s Carrington training ground’. A completely different person who is very well connected at Arsenal said to me that the guys are Carrington think that they are going to get Haaland, they are convinced that he is going to be coming into the club”, he said.

Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid are also understood to be monitoring the Norway international’s rapid rise at Salzburg.
