OFFICIAL: Wayne Rooney Agrees To Join Derby County In January 2020

Derby County has made it official that Wayne Rooney will be joining them in January 2020 after the MLS season is concluded with DC United.

The former Manchester United forward headed over to the United States to not only revitalize his career but also to bring lasting memories to the local footballing scene, as quoted by the Washington Post.

Rooney earned a club record of $3.5m in base salary last year and had a contract to stay with DC till 2021.

United co-chairmen, Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien said in a written statement, “After speaking to Wayne and understanding his difficult situation of being so far away from his family, we have accepted that this is the best decision for all parties. Wayne is an exceptional leader and one of the most iconic players to play the game, so we look forward to his continued contributions to the team this season.”

This is a huge coup for Derby County as they will be adding a world champion and a leader into their ranks. Rooney will be integrated into the Rams both as a player and a coach.

He is due to turn 34 this year but after watching some his highlights from the past two season, you can tell there is still a lot of football left in the Englishman. One can expect to find the supporters at Pride Park, exuberant when they see Rooney coming out of the coffers, helping them in their bid for promotion next season.

10 things you did not know about Harry Maguire

Here are 10 unknown facts about Harry Maguire you did not know!

The new Manchester United signing has become the world’s most expensive defender but we all know this. What are the facts about Harry, we do not know? Read on and find out.

  1. Maguire was a studious child in the classroom

All study and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Well such was not the case for Harry Maguire who had done really well not only in football, but also in school. He was a top student who used to score straight A’s.

His former deputy headteacher, Sue Cain, said: “He had his head screwed on even at that age. He did everything you asked him to do and he never questioned why. He was popular, and he was huge.

“Even at a young age he was very tall but he has filled out since then too. He towered over the other teams. He got A* and A grades in his GCSEs.

“I think he would have gone on to study business or maths and probably would have been an accountant. He was very capable academically.”

2. A footballer who easily could have excelled in other sports.

Maguire has turned out to play professionally in football and has done brilliantly well by becoming the world’s most expensive defender but the talented athlete had genes of multiple other sports in him.

He was a cross country runner, a rugby champion and a brilliant hockey player as well. Just goes on to show, how much of a natural athlete he is and how well he can do no matter which sport he takes up.

Maguire’s strength in rugby comes as the least surprising talent given his physical prowess in football as well and how most players are scared of getting in on a physical tussle with him.

3. A family of footballers.

Have you heard of the Hazards? The whole family plays football. Starting from their father and mother, to all four brothers. The Hazard’s can resist a touch or two of the football.

Well it turns out that for the Maguires, the situation is pretty much the same with all three Maguire brothers playing the game professionally. Moreover, Harry as it turns out is the Eden Hazard of the Maguire family, that is he is the most talented of the lot and by far the most successful.

His other brother Laurence is currently playing for Chesterfield in the National League while the third brother Joe plays his football for Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity.

Laurence has shown potential to make it to the top however, as recently he was picked for the England C side, which is a team for the under 23 side for players outside the football league.

4. A different player or Harry is it?

Harry Maguire has become popular for his fairy tale journey from Hull City a championship below to Leicester City to playing for England in the FIFA World Cup 2018 edition in Russia to now joining Manchester United by becoming the world’s most expensive defender.

However, Harry’s vast achievements, have been wrongly named on him. Harry is only his middle name, as he prefers to be called.

His true name is Jacob Harry Maguire!

5. From fan to goal scorer

Harry Maguire had just gained promotion to the Premier League back in 2016 with Hull City and England were participating in the 2016 Euros. Given the summer weeks off, Harry decided to travel with his friends to watch England in action as a fan! Little did he know he would be travelling two years later with the same team as a starting defender in a World Cup! How quickly things can change.

6. Harry on every money!

How many players do you know whose image pops up on money notes? Well this England star almost made it happen.

Thanks to his World Cup heroics for England, many fans wanted Harry Maguire riding an inflatable unicorn on £50 bills for England. A petition was launched and it went on to receive over 50,000 signatures!

However, Maguire eventually lost to mathematician Alan Turing who was selected to be on the note.

7. Slabhead

Maguire’s famous world cup header got him a rather unflattering nickname. Harry scored a towering header against Sweden to see England through and later in the press conference, his national and former club teammate Jamie Vardy barged in asking, “Hi, this is Jamie Vardy from Vardy News – what is the diameter of your head?”

Vardy later went on to nickname him and “slabhead” and boy has it lasted!

8. Sheffield’s standout star

He came through the academy at Sheffield United and while the club was at League one, he was their star player. He went on to register a record of becoming a part of the PFA League One team of the season and was also player of the season for the club from 2012 to 2014. Boy had glorious stars written all over him from the very start.

9. Kudos to John Pemberton

Maguire started his career as a midfielder and it was only at the age of 16, that his boss John Pemberton converted him to a defender.

“I won’t play you centre midfield while I’m manager here,’” Pemberton told The Times. “As a midfielder, lots of people can do what you do. But as a centre half, no one can do what you can do with a football.

“He’s an intelligent boy. And he took everything on board. We worked on playing out from the back, accepting the mistakes if they made them, but starting a lot of our attacks from the centre backs and full backs. And he took to it like a duck to water.

“He could defend, he could head it, he’s strong, he read the game very well. But what always marked him out as different from everyone else is the way he can handle the ball.”

What a move!

10. Playing in idol’s club

While growing up, it was Rio Ferdinand, the star of Manchester United and John Terry, a Chelsea legend who Maguire looked up to as idols!

“The two greatest centre-halves when I was growing up were John Terry and Rio Ferdinand,” said Maguire, who was speaking at his previous club Hull City in 2016/17.

“I really looked up to them, especially Rio Ferdinand, because he brought the ball out of defence really well. Very comfortable on the ball and he had a bit of everything in his prime. A great centre-half in his time.”

GOOD LUCK AT MANCHESTER, HARRY!

According to reports, Manchester United have accelerated their attempts to snap up Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese playmaker has been scouted by the Red Devils for a year and remains of their main targets this summer.

Solskjaer wants to add a midfielder to his ranks to fill the boots of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.

Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that United have already agreed on a six-year contract worth £6m. He also stated that the Red Devils will have to match Sporting’s £65m asking price for the 24-year-old.

Fernandes captained Sporting for the last time as they lost 5-0 to Benfica in the Portuguese Super Cup. He posted an emotional message on Instagram which appeared to confirm his imminent departure.

Tottenham are also rumoured to be keen on signing Fernandes, although Giovani Lo Celso remains their primary midfield target.

United recently completed the world-record £80m signing of Harry Maguire taking their spending spree to £150m. The Red Devils have only until 5 pm on August 8 to sign Bruno Fernandes before the window slams shut.

Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City. The Red Devils agreed on a world-record £80m for the defender, who will sign a six-year contract with the club.

Maguire joined Leicester City in 2017 and made 76 appearances for the Foxes. He penned a new deal in September last year with them. However, United have successfully managed to snap him up.

On joining the Red Devils, the 26-year-old said,

“I am delighted to have signed for this great club. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past two seasons. However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity.”

”From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole is building a team to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also expressed his delight and welcomed Maguire to the club.

“Harry is one of the best centre-backs in the game today and I am delighted we have secured his signature. He is a great reader of the game and has a strong presence on the pitch, with the ability to remain calm under pressure – coupled with his composure on the ball and a huge presence in both boxes – I can see he will fit well into this group both on and off the pitch.”

”He has a great personality and is a fantastic addition to the club.”

“I would like to welcome Harry to Manchester United and we are looking forward to working with him as we prepare for the new season.”

The Englishman could be set to feature in Manchester United’s crunch Premier League opener versus Chelsea on August 11.

If reports from The Times are to be believed, Manchester United have turned down Real Madrid’s fresh new bid for talisman Paul Pogba. Los Blancos offered £27m along with James Rodriguez in an attempt to prize the Frenchman away from Old Trafford, however, that clearly isn’t enough for the Red Devils.

Paul Pogba has openly expressed his desire yo leave the Premier League in search of a new challenge this summer. However, Manchester United are adamant on keeping hold of their superstar and have slapped a £150m price tag to ward off potential bidders.

Zinedine Zidane is said to be keen on linking up with his countryman at the Bernabeu. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also looking to offload James Rodriguez this summer.

The Columbian joined Los Merengues in 2014 for £63m but has failed to live up to the expectations ever since. He recently completed a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich and now Zidane is ready to cash in on the 27-year-old.

Real Madrid are willing to sell Rodriguez until 15 August. However, if a deal doesn’t go through, they will send the player on loan again, this time to Napoli, who are unwilling to pay his release clause.

The Spanish giants are also rumoured to be in talks with Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, eyeing him as an alternative for Pogba. In the meanwhile, Manchester United are busy thrashing out deals for Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Dybala and Bruno Fernandes as the deadline day looms closer.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to abandon the chase for Juventus outcast Paulo Dybala, according to ESPN. The Red Devils have been chasing the Argentinian in a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku, however, the deal seems far from materialising before the window shuts down.

Lukaku is set to leave Manchester United with Juventus and Inter Milan showing a keen interest in signing him. Inter have already failed to land the player with a £54m bid, falling massively short of United’s £80m asking price.

Juventus were ready to offer Dybala in lieu for the Belgian, but Dybala’s questionable desire in joining the Red Devils has put the deal in jeopardy. However, Juve are still hopeful of signing the 26-year-old.

Dybala is said to be unhappy with the prospect of swapping Champions League football with Europa League for a season. Further, United have refused to meet his mammoth wage demands and there also have been complications in agreements over his image rights.

Manchester United have already splashed £68m on Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, before agreeing on a world-record £80m deal with Leicester City for Harry Maguire. The Red Devils are also said to be chasing a deal for Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Paulo Dybala – A name that Manchester United fans have been uttering far too frequently for the past few days. The Juventus striker, a bona fide superstar, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. Apparently, Manchester United are trying to chisel out a deal that will see Romelu Lukaku moving to Juventus while the Argentinian clears his lockers at the Allianz to embrace Old Trafford as his new home.

Solskjaer has already revealed his admiration for Dybala in midst of rumours linking him to the  Red Devils. While the 25-year-old will no doubt be an upgrade in the current squad, there are certain reasons why Manchester United would be better off dropping the chase for the forward.

Let’s have a look at five reasons why United should refrain from signing the Bianconeri number 10.

#5 Paulo Dybala is being forced into a United move

If all that the reports say is true, It’s Juventus who want Paulo Dybala to go to Manchester United in exchange for Romelu Lukaku. Nowhere does it say that the player himself is interested in the move.

Dybala is reportedly not ready to sacrifice Champions League football to play in the Europa League for a year. Fair enough, no player at Juventus would do so, knowing that they are the top contenders to win the Champions League this season.

Solskjaer is in the midst of building a project at Old Trafford. He needs to have players who are actually ready to play for the club, to play for the badge and to help them find lost glories. Apparently, Dybala doesn’t seem to fit the bill in that sense.

In spite of that reason, if United do pull out all stops to sign the Argentinian they risk repeating the Angel Di Maria case yet again.

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte has said that his side are still hopeful of signing a deal for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku. erfwfrgre

Reports in Italy are suggesting that Inter Milan’s rivals Juventus are closing in on a swap deal for the Belgian forward with Paulo Dybala going to Old Trafford but a last minute stumbling block in the deal has come in the form of Dybala who does not prefer the move to England, thereby putting Inter Milan back in the race for the player.

“We’re continuing to work in the best possible way,” he said after Inter beat Tottenham 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 International Champions Cup draw. “I understand there are some gaps to fill but, at the moment, I’m very hopeful.

“At the same time, I’m working with a big group of players who I’m very satisfied with.

“I honestly don’t know how it will end. I’m reading about the swap in the newspapers.

“Lukaku is a good player, a striker I tried to buy when I was the coach at Chelsea. We’re talking about two big clubs in Juventus and Inter, but I honestly don’t know how it will end.”

Manchester United coach has said that Paul Pogba was not risked for the last friendly at Cardiff due to the season opener next week against Chelsea in the Premier League.

“He will be back next week training,” he said. “It’s not an injury, just some pain. I wasn’t going to risk anything this weekend. He should be okay for Chelsea.”

It seems Ole is confident that Pogba will be staying at the club. He went so far as to say he has “no doubts” that the French World Cup winner will be at the club this season.

Speaking of arrivals next, Ole also seemed confident that Maguire transfer is close to getting completed.

“Hopefully the last little details will be in place so we can announce something very soon,” he said.

“Let’s get the last details over the line [before discussing Maguire playing against Chelsea] but, yeah.

“He’s played a few games over the summer. We’ll have to assess him if and when.”

Should Maguire join Manchester United, he will resolve a big problem of the Manchester United defensive line which desperately needs a recognized senior centre back .

Former Manchester United winger Nani has revealed the advice he has given to Bruno Fernandes regarding the transfer.

The Sporting CP captain is set to leave Sporting CP with concrete interest from the Red Devils. In light of the rumours surrounding his future, the 24-year-old has apparently taken advice from Nani regarding the move to Old Trafford.

“I often said to him, ‘You with the strength you have, if you train a little more you will explode and drive the English crazy”

“England is where he will shine, it’s the league where the players get the ball in after every shot, there are spectacular goals.”

“It was very well delivered. We kept talking, with me wishing him good luck before the games and him responding by thanking.”

“When I left he thanked me for the tips I gave him while I was there. If this kind of news or rumours came out, it can only be from someone who is trying to burn people’s image.”

“There are a lot of envious people, they can’t see good news about certain players and that frustrates others.”

Manchester United have reportedly agreed on a world-record £85m for Harry Maguire. Solskjaer is also keen on landing Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic in a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Mario Mandzukic.

United are currently gearing up to play AC Milan in their final game of the pre-season.
