Manchester United are rumoured to be working on a deal to bring Sporting CP and Portugal playmaker Bruno Fernandes to Old Trafford this summer. The 24-year-old capped off an impressive 2018/19 campaign with 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 games for Sporting, forcing a number of clubs to ask for his signature.

Manchester United are said to be leading the race for Fernandes, who is also reported to have agreed on personal terms with them. However, the transfer fee is proving to be a stumbling block for both United and Sporting.

Kevin Kilbane has given his opinion on the Red Devils chasing the Portuguese star, saying that he is not on the same level as Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy or Rodri. Speaking to Irish outlet Off The Ball, he said,

“They’re not necessarily names if we’re talking in terms of the business Real Madrid have done and the business Man City have done and will do, they’re not names at that level.”

“But they’re going to make Man United better. Look where Man United are, they’re a fifth and sixth-placed team. That’s where they are. We expect them to be a top one or two. You have to accept [that they’ve got to do it that way now].”

Manchester United currently scouring the market for a center-back to bolster their ailing defence. And, the name topping their wishlist for the same is Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

According to reports, the Red Devils CEO Ed Woodward is ready to offer the Englishman a whopping £250k per week to join Manchester United.

The 26-year-old currently earns £90k per week at the King’s Power stadium, and should he agree to move to Old Trafford, he would be in for a massive pay raise.

Manchester United have already had a £70m bid for the player rejected by the Foxes, who want a world-record £90m fee for their prized asset.

Manchester City were also said to be interested in Maguire’s signature, but have turned their attention elsewhere following the mammoth asking price for him.

Paul Pogba has been backed to become a success should he join Real Madrid, according to former Galactico Morientess.

“I think he is a great player, but Real Madrid need to let some players leave before signing others,” he told reporters.

“There are many good players in the Real Madrid midfield but Pogba is one of the best there is.

“Zidane is pushing a lot to sign him. I think when a coach wants a player it is because he knows he is going to do good things, so if Pogba came he would be a good signing for Real Madrid.”

Pogba rejoined Manchester United from Juventus a few seasons back for a world record move for a midfielder. He was one of the best players at the world at that moment and has since then won the FIFA World Cup with France as well.

However, in that same time period he has been unable to do his best for Manchester United. He has been tipped to become one of the best in England but despite stacking up some decent numbers, he has not been able to live up to his fame.

It might well be time now for him to move on to a new project with Real Madrid looking interested.

According to reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked the Old Trafford bosses to sign three more players before the transfer window shuts down for another 6 months.

Manchester United have already offloaded Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia, while also facing the grave prospect of losing Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba this summer.

The Red Devils have already signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a combined fee of £68m from Swansea and Crystal Palace. However, the number of possible departures this summer means the United manager will need more players to strengthen his roster.

Solskjaer is reportedly looking to sign a striker, a central midfielder and a center-back this summer, with a view to bolstering all the three departments.

United are said to be closing in on deals for Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire, with rumours also claiming they have agreed on personal terms with Wissam Ben-Yedder.
The Red Devils will begin their pre-season as they take on Perth Glory on Saturday this week.

If reports from French outlet RMC Sport are to be believed, Manchester United have made a shock enquiry about Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Solskjaer is apparently looking to bolster his midfield after the departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.

Bakayoko joined Chelsea for £40m in 2017 as a replacement for Nemanja Matic, who joined Manchester United back then. However, the Frenchman endured a forgettable debut season at the Stamford Bridge and was shipped off to AC Milan on loan.

Having resuscitated his career in Italy, the 23-year-old is now back with the Chelsea squad for their pre-season. According to reports, Bakayoko will have a fresh chance of impressing Frank Lampard this season.

United aren’t the only interested party in the midfield enforcer, with Paris Saint Germain also regarded as firm favourites for his signature.

Romelu Lukaku’s exit is looming large and the Belgian striker is expected to dawn new colours before the transfer window shuts. He is being courted aggressively by Inter Milan, while Juventus also remain interested in his signature.

Lukaku’s departure would mean Solskjaer will need to add firepower upfront. He will need to buy a striker who can fire goals on a daily basis and be an improvement on Lukaku.

On that note, let’s have a look at five options the United boss can consider to replace the towering Belgian.

#5 Sebastian Haller (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Eintracht Frankfurt had both Luka Jovic and Sebastian Haller in top form last season. While the former has made a move to Real Madrid, the future also seems to be bright for his strike partner who has attracted interest from Manchester United.

Haller scored 15 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for Frankfurt last season. Apart from his sharp-shooting skills, he has built a reputation as a real frightening presence in the air, winning a whopping 6.3 aerial duels on average. Imagine how his aerial exploits would come handy when United try to bombard defences with long balls!

Haller is currently rated at €40m – a price tag United will have no trouble matching this summer.

The Paul Pogba transfer saga has continued to drag on after the player and his agent Mino Raiola confirmed his intention to leave Manchester United this summer. Real Madrid and Juventus are the two parties rumoured to be interested in the Frenchman’s signature.

According to reports, Real Madrid could win the race for the 26-year-old unless Juventus convince Paulo Dybala to join Manchester United in a player-plus-cash deal.

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmieri tweeted United’s intentions about wanting the Argentinian attacker in exchange for their talisman.

“Manchester United actively working on getting Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio. Starting price 75m€.”

“Opening the way to Pogba.”

“Juventus and Real Madrid on him, but Real Madrid at the moment way ahead on offer, unless Dybala would accept to be in swap.”

Players Manchester United can target to replace Paul Pogba?

Players Manchester United can target to replace Paul Pogba? The Paul Pogba conundrum at Manchester United gained a totally different dimension after Mino Raiola confirmed his client’s desire to leave the club. The Frenchman has faced harsh opprobrium for having a bittersweet campaign and looks to be at the end of his tether at Old Trafford. As such, giants like Real Madrid and Juventus are already circling the playmaker.

Although United have made it clear that they do not want to sell Pogba, the Red Devils would be better prepared with a shortlist in case they lose the 26-year-old this summer. Replacing Pogba is a mammoth task altogether, given the fact that he is the talisman and the face of the club from a marketing perspective.

Without further ado, let’s have a look at the five best options Manchester United can look at to replace their record signing.

#5 Isco (Real Madrid)

5 players Manchester United can target to replace Paul Pogba

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is following a full-proof transfer strategy, focusing on young talents who can come and stay at the club for the long term.

The arrivals of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are proofs that the Norwegian isn’t keen on wasting money on marquee signings and readymade players.

Isco doesn’t quite fit Solskjaer’s requirements – but here’s the deal. Real Madrid are ready to offer £72m plus either one of Gareth Bale or Isco in lieu for Pogba. If Real Madrid have actually tabled such an offer, Isco is the more logical option to go with, given the fact that he is more of a like-to-like replacement for the Frenchman.

A separate attempt to entice Isco to Old Trafford would easily cost over £100m, but with Zidane looking to offload the Spaniard, signing him would be a coup in itself.

Coming to his style of play, the 27-year-old can operate in a variety of positions, predominantly on the left, albeit he is also well-adept playing centrally. Isco would bring a plethora of creativity in the middle of the park, as his numbers suggest.

The Spaniard notched 89.1% of passing accuracy and 1.2 key passes per game last season. He also provided 1.9 long balls on average last season; he is also skilled at holding on to the ball and dribbling past the players.

Getting Isco in a cash-plus-player deal would be a bargain, given the plethora of experience he will bring to the club.

The defensive signing United need right now

Manchester United have fallen quite a way since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The success the Scot brought to the club has long been replaced by managerial changes, transfer failures and the board’s incompetency.

United now are a club going through the motions and a giant fast falling into the nothingness. They need to revitalize their team.

The club is not all destroyed though as they do have players in midfield and especially in attack who can change the game at the drop of a hat.

However, one area that looks well below average for the Red Devils is that of defence. The United central defence consists of players who are not worthy of the badge.

They need a Van Dijk of their own who can take the defence by the scruff of its neck and make it all powerful and difficult to break.

Hence, the only man in the current market who can do that is Kalidou Koulibaly. There are other choices of course in Matthjis De Ligt and Harry Maguire. However, even though De Ligt and Maguire are very good defenders in their own right, Koulibaly is a leader who can marshal the defence, which is exactly what United need.

Manchester United submit £90 million bid for defender

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a £90 million bid to Leicester City for centre-back Harry Maguire.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are still keen to sign Maguire despite Leicester’s incredibly huge asking price.

Manchester United were interested in signing Maguire last summer but failed to do so. Maguire produced another impressive showing in the 2018/19 season which has propelled the Red Devils to reignite interest in the 26-year old.

Manchester United reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Maguire because Leicester City were demanding £90 million for him.

However, they made an improved bid of £70 million which Leicester rejected. The Red Devils are now eager to land Maguire and have tabled a bid of £90 million.

Lack of a quality centre-back was a key reason behind Manchester United doing poorly last season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to bring in new reinforcements this summer and has already signed two players in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Bringing in a centre-back is still Manchester United’s top priority and the addition of someone like Harry Maguire is something the club can very much do with.

Maguire has been a key player for Leicester City for the past two seasons. He was named Leicester’s Player of the Season for 2017/18 and followed it with an impressive showing in the World Cup in Russia, assisting a goal and scoring his first international goal in the quarter-final against Sweden exactly a year back.

Maguire continued to impress for Leicester City last season and cemented his place in the club and in the national team.

Provided Leicester City agree to sell Maguire for £90 million, he will surpass Virgil van Dijk as the most expensive defender in the world.
